Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

I expect to work through all of the amp sims at home, of course. I am too much of a tech geek to not at least try them all!

It sure is a lot of fun spinning the AMP knob and getting a whole new bass tone, but if you want to call it "work" then that must be for tax purposes or something :-)

In case you can't wait until tomorrow, have a sneak preview listen @ http://www.zinfanus.com/vamp

I tried the unit with resetting it, just to give it a try. Then I did the reset and went with Charlie's recommendations. The difference is night and day.

My inner Leslie was coming out as I was playing some gospel tunes on my strat clone with the rotary setting.

Tonight, we discovered the joy of a stereo connection. I have the analog left and right to my mixer board in a stereo channel. The stereo delay sounds pretty cool bouncing back and forth between right and left channels.

Since part of the features of this bad boy is being a virtual amp, I am going direct to the mixer board in my experiments.

Be sure to configure the V-AMP for operating mode "Studio 1" when connecting to the mixer board ;-)

Tip #4: Undocumented Stomp Boxes

The manual tells you the Bass V-AMP has 4 renowned stomp box models, but nowhere does it tell you what they are.

I contacted Behringer and they actually replied back the next day!

DRIVE Simulations:

  1. Electro-Harmonix Hog's Foot
  2. Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi Fuzz
  3. Pro Co Rat
  4. T.C. Electronics Booster + Line Driver + Distortion
Effect parameters are DRIVE, BOOST, SPLIT, TONE
SPLIT sets distortion bypass crossover
Left = Off, Turning Right = 41-600 Hz

1st Charlie C this is a great thread. I've had a BVampPro in my set-up at home for several years. I use it into a mixer for rehearsals mainly.
I thought mine was dying, or had been damaged. Turns out, it was just the battery. Secondly, I didn't know about the input gain. Changing that made a huge difference.

Lastly, and it's in reference to your quote. I didn't see in the manual or in this thread any instruction on how one access those stomp box models. I played around and figured it out.

prss both arrows <- -> (between tuner and tap) to enter the edit mode.
press the "B" button for drive.
Then use the arrows to select the stomp box.
The stomp box controls will be the knobs lit up on the lower left
press "exit" to close.

Thanks, TL

... and those are exactly the correct steps to enable a stomp box

After the boys go to bed, I am trying out these hidden features.

Has anyone tested the V-AMP with a high-output active bass? I'm wondering where I'd want to set the gain on this thing for my bass.

For basses of this type, the V-AMP's MASTER INPUT GAIN is best left set at 12-noon (i.e. the default 0 dB setting.)

There is no "excessive" setting, just watch the Clip LED, use your ears, and adjust accordingly. The only known problem is the result of the exact opposite condition, when you have a medium to low output bass and leave the V-AMP at default 0 dB (it's simply too low a signal for proper operation.)

Tip #18: SYNTH Bass Effect

The other day I priced synth bass pedals online and discovered that they ranged anywhere from $89 to $269 for a stomp box that took batteries or a wall wart.

The SYNTH effect built into the V-AMP is really juicy, flexible, programmable, and tracks very well provided you know the secret:

Be sure to use a very clean or low-gain AMP model, or better yet, no AMP model (see a previous tip) and the results are spectacular!
