Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

I did the factory reset and that seems to have done the trick for now. Everything went back to behaving normally so I can only assume the programming got 'confused' somehow. It is the 1.09 eprom (the latest?) if that may make any difference. I also took out the battery and cleaned the contacts to see if that helps my shortened battery life any. Only time will tell. At least my unit is back to it's old self again!

Great! and v1.09 is in fact the latest EPROM.

Should the problem resurface, perhaps the hardware is failing and replacement is in order. I would not entertain paying for repair or servicing as most factory service centers repair nothing, but instead, usually just swap yours with a refurbished one. I'm sure service charges would be $100+ and a typical sale price on a brand new unit is $149.

Good luck!

Does the master volume control have the same led indicators?

I ordered one from ZZounds ( with their price match ) and strangely enough there are no LED indicators on the master gain control on the right, and check this out...

the Tuning reference point was set at A=425HZ

Sounds like someone messed with this unit ( even though all packaging was sealed)...

yet they proceeded to tell me that it could take up to 2 days for them to inspect it and see if i would be charged a restocking Fee.

I've had good luck with them before but this has rubbed me the wrong way.

So.. what? are they going to put it back on the shelf and sell it to someone else and see if they notice?... sounds like walmart!

Mostly I want to ask and make sure there really are LED's behind that master gain control.. seems kinda dumb not to know where you are with the dial unless you crank it up and back to see where the end points are.

Thanks

I still haven't received mine. I thought the guy flaked on me but he did contact me a couple of days ago and payment has been sent and hopefully it shipped yesterday. I did go ahead and order the EPROM for $14.95 shipped so I'm hoping everything will arrive at the end of the week.

The Master Volume is the only knob on the Bass V-AMP that does not feature LEDs and is the only "real" pot control on the unit

Should you suspect that someone messed with your unit prior to you taking ownership, simply perform a "Factory Reset" on it and all should be well

I have a question about this unit, owned one a couple of years ago and thinking of picking up one again.

The built in synth can be MIDI controlled via a MIDI keyboard. However, the unit I had did not appear to be velocity sensitive - it just played the same volume regardless of how hard or soft I hit the keys on my controller. Has anyone here discovered a way to turn on velocity sensitive mode for the built in synth?

The Bass V-AMP owners manual states that the unit neither transmits nor receives "Velocity" MIDI info.

I think you may be out of luck with that unless one of the MIDI guys here can either confirm or deny that.

Me? I so disappointed in the V-AMP right now in not having that ability that I am renouncing the unit and my vested interest in this thread :-)

Cheers!

Thanks for clarifying that for me CharlieC :) I swear I looked in the manual repeatedly but did not locate this little gem of information.

And I'll take your unit for cheap. Since you are now disillusioned, say $25 shipped to my location? PM me if interested ;)

So you would be getting a rack-mounted bass preamp, with a built-in tuner, an independent compressor, dual XLR outs, multiple amp tones, options for programmability, and a dozen or so stomp box effects, including a non-velocity-sensitive MIDI Synth ...

Let me think about it, but $25 sounds fair!

And not to sound like Ron Popeil here, but everyone else can also have their own Bass V-AMP Pro for 7-easy payments of $25 :-)

I hate to add insult to injury here, but your comment about "knowing where you are on the Master Volume knob" leads me to wonder if "they" replaced the original plastic knob on the unit with one without the "white dot" that tells you where it's set at. If there is no white dot on your volume knob then the origin of that unit is VERY suspect. Not only did yours come suspiciously set at A-445, but then the original volume knob with white dot is missing!

If this is true then it sounds like you did not receive a brand new unit and the fact that they won't let you return it without a restocking fee is inexcusable.

Finally, if you paid any more than $169, including tax + shipping, then this is really painful indeed. :-(

New user from Italy and subscribed to this thread, thanks to CharlieC for the useful tips about this piece of gear.
I'm only a bit confused on how to properly connect to my bass amp (Markbass CMD102).
Actually I've connected from DI Out of Bass V-Amp Pro to the DI Input of the Amp, with the bass hooked up to the Behringer in the front panel, but i cannot control volume with master control of the V-Amp.
Maybe it's better to connect them in a send/return loop?
I've just bought an ART-X15 Midifoot controller and have same problem with expression pedals, glad to read that i can solve the issue reprogramming the pedalboard, i will try in next days.

Cheers from Paolo

Paolo, the connection you described is not one that I would suggest using and it is no surprise that you cannot control the V-AMP's Master Volume when connected as you have it.

Do not use the the V-AMP's XLR outs to connect to your MarkBass combo!

Instead, use one of the 1/4" outs on the back of the V-AMP labeled, "Unbalanced", the "L" jack, under the section, "Analog Line Outputs".

I am not familiar with the CMD102 amp, however, the MarkBass web site owner's manual states that it has a "RETURN EFFECT" connection on the rear, and I would use that. If that does not work then use the amp's front 1/4" input.

You should then be able to use the V-AMP's Master Volume knob and you will need to figure out things on the MarkBass side.

Once connected to the combo amp, you will want to set the V-AMP's operating mode to "L3" (Live 3). My Quick Start Guide PDF can help you with that, http://www.zinfanus.com/vamp/guide.pdf

Good luck!

Charlie, thanks to your wonderful advice in this thread, I am taking the plunge. I am buying a used Bass V-Amp Pro through a craigslist seller. I am meeting him Saturday afternoon to exchange cash for product. It is a steal of a deal that I just cannot justify passing up.

Thanks, and way to go, Chad!

Life's too short, enjoy all the toys you can, and make some killer bass tones while doing so :-)

Cheers!

My primary intention for it is to just a pre-amp. I don't have a need at this time for amp simulation. And then adding a touch of reverb or chorus for the slow songs. For $75, I cannot beat a deal like that.

Good luck with Berranger....now I can't say anything bad since i never bought anything made by them due to reading all the negative reviews on this forum and others. I do believe that some of their power ams and pa equipment might be better than their bass amps. Instead of the b brand I did buy a line6 lowdown HD750 head and it was only $500 and so far so good....At the very least certain brands can be iffie props....you compromise one way or the other.....Best of luck

You are in for a real treat then, especially at only $75!

The V-AMP's primary function is as a bass preamp with tones that sound like other bass amps. The "simulation" is in how it attempts to simulate the sounds of those other amps, but it's really just a preamp after all.

When you acquire your new pre-owned V-AMP, I suggest you first perform a "Factory Reset" to set it straight and then use my PDF guide to get up and running under Operating Mode "L3"

You should like what you hear, or maybe you won't, but regardless, I'm looking forward to your posts on this thread about that experience once you've test driven it for yourself.
