I have gone back through the thread and taken Charlie's excellent information and put it into a single easy-to-print PDF.

I have made no corrections for typos or grammar. My first goal was simply to condense the information into one place, so here it is. If there is interest, a version with corrected typos and cleaned up writing will require someone with a firmer grasp on proper grammar editing.

I did not realize how voluminous all these add up to be.

Whoever authored all these tips really knows their V-AMP, either that, or they need to get a life :-)

But seriously, such things happen due to evolution. If you had planned to write that much, you probably wouldn't have written that much. It was an organic process.

I dare say, given enough time, you could re-write the entire manual and the world would be a better place for it.

Just discovered this thread today and it's fantastic - all the advice has been useful. I've had a bass vamp pro for about 18 months now and whilst I get great tones through headphones, when I go through speakers/cabs I get an strange 'afternote' as if the ultrabass effect is permanently on. Any ideas as to what this is or how to get rid of it?

I bet one of the "hidden" Stomp Box effects is enabled and spoiling the party for you

My guide will help cleanse all those preset artifacts on the patch

You got it!

I ended up with a great quality box full of effects in a convenient, easy to carry package that provides me with all of the effects I needed for my bass playing, plus others that are fun to play with.

Plus, since it is a Behringer, it means I didn't pay an overly-inflated price for the same compute chips and board components that everyone uses that are produced in the same factory in China.

Thus, I have saved a ton of money.

Wait...was this a lame attempt at Behringer hate, JD?

I've always wanted to say this since the start of this thread, but since you've let it out....I TOTALLY AGREE!!! I've had my VAMP for more than four years and I don't think I've gotten full use of the preamp because of that crappy manual. Since the manual is written in other languages, do you think the non-English versions are just as convoluted to read?

Mention compressors to some bass players and they may joke at the thought of even using one. Others may say that they have one, but find it complicated to use or get the results they want since there are too many knobs and parameters to adjust.

Amp or preamp manufacturers may sometimes include a built-in compressor with their products. Unless it's an SWR Marcus Miller preamp or some other high-end product, there may be only one or two knobs to deal with. Manufacturers know that this makes life easier on bass players who just want to quickly and easily add compression to their bass tone and it also makes the unit more affordable as well.

I think the V-AMP's built-in compressor with it's 2 simple parameters does a fine job given the ridiculously low retail price of the whole unit. There's no reason someone couldn't add their own compressor stomp box or rack unit to the V-AMP, as it has 2 separate effect loops to do so.

One could buy a new V-AMP preamp, a 1000-watt power amp, and a sophisticated $300 rack mounted compressor and still come in under the price of a boutique, high-end preamp/amp that may still only have a few knobs for compression or perhaps even no amp or compression section at all. $$$
