Behringer XR18 Air - Which tablet and why?

I have some co-workers that are android fans, mostly they complain about Apple's proprietary nature, which is really code for saying too expensive... These guys are also always looking for the cheap way in or out... They fight more stuff than I ever do. I was an early iPad adopter. Also bought the developer license, went through a dev boot camp and did some UI/UX consulting. So I did the full on KoolAid immersion. Still use my original 16g iPad 1 as my lyrics and charts tool. I also have a pair of 2's, a 3 and a 4. The 3 is my email and daily driver, a 32 g model 2 os docked in my DL-1608 for break music support and backup to the 4 which is my main mixing platform. The other 2 is a 16g machine that talks to my lighting rig via the Luminar app.

There is a thriving Craigslist market in these things... I say that's your best bet. On the pdx CL $200 will get a mint iPad 4 16g, maybe LTE as well...

Just an FYI, I found this out after buying my XR18. There is no X-Air app for the iPhone, it's iPad only. I was a little disappointed with this as some of the band members use iPhones and I thought they would be able to use their phones to tweak their personal monitor mixes. Oh well, minor point. I just got my XR18 and so far it's been working really well with my Galaxy S4 phone, Nexus 7 tablet, and Win 7 laptop. I haven't pried my wife's iPad 3 from my sons hands yet to try that out but I assume it will work just as well too.

Well -
I find myself tapped at the moment. But not without a plan.......

I have been trying the setup at the venue I do sound at, and found that my laptop works just fine. here is what I didn't quite expect......
I somehow missed the 1.3 version for PC and found it works well, and is almost just like the 1.1 and 1.2. I hadn't seen the PFL beside each fader but do now, and find that helpful.

I also found that I can connect the nextbook tablet my wife had gotten me, and can easily use this on stage. the two syn nicely, and my thoughts are that I have a guy who works with me on sound at the venue, and we can work one on mains and one on monitors easily and/or I can use this to ring out monitors ahead of time.

I will have to wait to get a bigger better touch pad of some type - but will run like this for now until I need to do something more. At least I think I will ......lets see

Since you're just using the Windows PC as a controller, there are some very low cost Windows Tablet PC's in the big electronic's stores that might just do the trick. There are bunches of sales and good enough ones well under $100.

Old netbooks probably work fine too. Some are eligible for free Windows 10 upgrade. I had one in a drawer and it updated with no problems.

I am finding that I either HATE windows 10 or just don't know enough about it and get lost. I am not opposed to change, but this has been awkward for me.
I think she paid like $80 for this nextbook 2 in 1. its small, but seems ok. I REALLY Like the larger laptop screen - just wish it was a touch screen. but so far no issues. I am actually going to use this setup tonight for a jam with a full band setup. 3 monitor mixes, kick and hat/snare, harp, 1-2 guitars, bass, possibly keys and 3-4 vocals. thats the typical setup anyway. lets see how this goes - I have a show saturday, but will probably use the Mixwiz on that one - since I am much more familiar with it. I would rather give the national acts my closer to A-Game, if I had one.

Consider Best Buy 'Outlet'. I have a QSC Touchmix 16 mixer + I use 'Set List Maker' for onstage notes, etc. I have purchase an iPad 2,3 & an Air thru them (JemJem & Blinq were the Market Place sellers)... great prices - like new devices! I've used a coupla Android tablets - they just weren't as easy to use...

I purchased an iPad 3- just dedicated to the Touchmix.

Ran the K12s last night - but didn't use the digital setup......kept with the mixwiz. I think the K12s did a fine job, but I wish I had a third/maybe fourth for dispersion .......its a wide room. I will try that next week. they did a nice job as monitors, but I was surprised that they didn't get much louder before feedback. I rang them out, and constantly had 1.2 k feedback I couldn't get rid of. My guess is that it was placement, because the singer from second band used a different mic. The Cardioid pattern may have hit these just right to give me issues. I worked through it, but I could hear it tr yto rear its head on and off all night. I really liked them - but don't think I did them the justice they deserved

Actually got a call back from Behringer on this - will try a couple of things tonight. They were surprisingly quick to answer the question sent in via email on their site.

thats a surprise twist - and my calls and emails to Fender were long between Q and A on the few they DID answer........

Customer svc is a big deal with a bunch of people I know - good first impression Behringer!!!
