Being harrased by other bands

Awesome... yeah this band the first go around was very talkative and friendly.... but when they "came back for revenge" they weren't as nice.... oh well... sore loser much?.... but we'll be back in it this year... if nothing more than to steal a few more devotees lol...

Who cares? At least it has people talking about you. One drink = one vote sounds pretty flawed to me anyway.

It seems odd that that would be the voting system at an all-ages competition. Pretty unfair. And stupid.

My thought also. If this competition was open to under age bands then whoever came up with this system is an idiot!

It is rather childish of those who are spamming your FB page to do so since it was not your band's fault. They really need to put their efforts in to going after who ever set up the competition and made that voting system!

Just more reasons to avoid battle of the band shows. Voting methods are usually flawed and somebody who lost thinks they should have won or bands who win are not necessarily the best band.

And the winner is…

Maybe if the purpose of the system was to actually decide which was the best band, but if the purpose of the system was to sell drinks, it's pretty ingenius.

It’s hard to believe that after so many decades of these promotions that anyone is still sucked into thinking that a “Battle of the Bands” has anything to do with the “Bands” or the “Battle”. It’s about the revenue the venues and promoters generate from the generally young and inexperienced musicians bringing their friends and families to said venue and spending money to spur them on to a “Win”.
The last one I attended was to see a non musician friend’s 17 year old son’s “band”. Besides the $5 cover, soft drinks (including water) were $4 each. Not surprisingly, the bands whose supporters spend the most money are generally the winning “best bands”, and get to continue while the less thirsty bands and their followers go home.
What a coincidence! The winning “band” could be a dude on stage in his underwear banging two pots together, if he also happens to bring along 400 hard drinking friends to watch him do it.

Not that I have a problem with that, mind you; it’s just that IMO you should at least understand how it really works before criticizing the system. If not, you could come across as pretty naïve.

my band got through the 2nd round of a local battle of the drunks (read battle of the fans).it was based on the audience and bands buying a drink 1 drink=1 vote...

Fixed it. Do these harrassers have to "Like" your page before they can comment? If so, then the more, the merrier! Just delete the toxic comments and let 'er ride!

Went through a similar situation years ago. Made it to the finals, and a few days before the show I actually got a phone call from the singer of the band that was the predetermined winner telling me we shouldn't bother and offering us a gig at another venue that night.

We clearly were the better band, but at the end of the night they were announced as the winners. The other bands and their fans actually started booing, yelling "fix!" and chanting our band's name. The next week the singer of the "winning" band was doing the booking at the club. What a coincidence!

This one happened to be worth it, we made a lot of friends in other bands got a lot of new fans but most BotB are complete wastes of time.

Maybe it really is a Battle of the Bands... the best cover bands are the ones who bring in the most people and sell the most booze, usually.

So true. I stopped doing battles when I turned 21 and could get into bars without the help of stupid contests. Even before that, it wasn't a favorite way to perform.

Yeah they are horrible... but the one that we do offers a contract to play the club.... and its a very nice and busy club... sometimes I wish I could stick my foot soooooo far up our old singers fun sac that he can taste his future children.... we lost our contract... and now either have to change our name just to play this club or really bust our chops harder to get in....

That's just immature from the other band. Plus the buy a drink=1 vote seems a little weird to me.

As stated these things are more of a "free band"+ sales boost... to the venues.... so I'm not surprised to see something like that....

Personally, I hate battles, but it's one of the few ways I can get a show at a bar.

I've never seen anything like the disrespect you've experienced, but can't you change the settings on the page so only people who "like" the page can comment?

That way, in order to make a remark, they have to become a fan, then delete their comments, and leftover fans!

We lost a battle to a cover band a year or two older than us, and I became a serious fan of that band... No reason to be nasty, music is hard enough as it is.

Yeah BotBs suck... but on another front its a good way to get your music out to other people... ones that may not know about you and all that... if we don't win this year (which is fine by me) I know that when we leave the place we will have another 20-30 fans that come see us other places around.... and they will bring friends... and so the cycle begins... =D
