Belated NBD! Danelectro "Wild Thing"

32" is a nice in-between size. A Fender P or J is 34" and a Bronco is 30" AIR.

My middle son was looking for his first electric six-string at age 13 and only had $200 to spend. We went to Guitar Center, where I encouraged him to try everything (as I did when he'd earlier chosen a Wshburn D10 acoustic). I saw this TURQUOISE shape and thought "Can it be?" Yes, the first-edition Dano U2 reissue of 1998! I told him "Plug this into any amp, it'll sound good." Which it did and he took it home.

A few years later (after 40 years of playing heavy Fender Precisions), I found a new Dano Longhorn in a Sam Ash. Plugged it into a big Ampeg rig and WOW what a tone. And lightweight! I started looking for Longhorns and noticed a few pros using them, the bass player in Jay Leno's "Tonight" show band for one. Only problem was I didn't like the available cream-to-brown sunburst color, figured I'd have to have mine re-painted black.

The Wild Thing is not as "wild looking" to me as a Longhorn, and it comes in BLACK. My next bass!

(And BTW all new reissue Danos have sealed tuners, a nice upgrade from the originals IMO.)

I'm tempted to get a supporting membership...with my first action being to post a WTB ad for one of these in blue. I like the black ones, but the blue has this goofy charm about it, and fits me stylistically.
These used to be on Amazon- price dropped earlier last year or so to around $200! I should have picked one up then as I've always liked the funky shape. Somehow forgot about it and next time I looked, prices went up to over $700! Now I don't see any listed anywhere.

Don't let Mr. Hall from Rickenbacker see this, or you'll hear from his lawyers. ( I don't think it's the firm of Burst, Tort and Rosewood, they're Fender's legal team). The whole cresting wave motif is what the 4000 series is based on.

Hahaha, I think this might qualify as "prior art", in patent law terms. ;)
