Belated NBD; stupid Tropical Storm

Belated, as I received this excellent condition 2002 G&L SB-2 Tribute (Korean) from a fellow TBer (Thanks CD!) just after Tropical Storm Isaias ripped through Connecticut. So, unfortunately, I had no power to plug it in to an amp for 7 1/2 days while we were without power.

Once we got power back, though, I plugged it in and WHOA! The clarity is what really struck me; just a terrific sound though my V4B. Volume dialed back on the neck pickup it and does a good P impression, add the bridge pickup for some snap, and dime the bridge for hot punch. Those MFD pickups are awesome!

A little tweak to the truss rod, drop the saddles and it's a really nice player. The neck is deeper than I am used to by just a bit, but after playing for a couple of hours, I didn't notice it anymore. I'm thoroughly impressed with this bass at its price point.

I would've splurged on a generator rental for that baby! But yeah, we definitely did get whacked hard here in the Constitution State. Nice rig you have there. And watch it with that headstock...you'll take an eye out if you're not careful!

Actually, I have a generator, but I was not going to subject my V4B to the power wave from that; too many horror stories about fried amps, computer, electronics, etc. I’ve learned patience in my old age...

Agreed. Generators are best for essentials – like saving that 10 lbs. of frozen shrimp you bought at Costco before the storm.

Recently bought this for whenever there's a power issue...great for camping out, late nights on the beach, etc.
Sounds good with my L2000 plugged in.

I’ll have to look in to those. Crossed fingers the power loss won’t be a continued concern, but the flexibility of something like that for a beach/woods kind of thing would be cool.

I know what you mean. Power went out here last Tuesday a little before noon and didn't come back on for 24 hours.
Could've been worse, but...
Funny, but I just ordered the Micro Cube from Amazon. Will be delivered on Sunday.
Best amp in its category, yet Guitar Center and Sam Ash simply don't keep them in stock in most stores. I go to five different GCs and four different Sam Ash stores and only once have I found one actually on the floor.
The Joyo is actually better than I thought it would be and you can wear it on a strap slung over your back!

Nope; from the first, I thought I needed to change them. I have no idea what they are, but I do not like them; just don’t like the feel.

I have a set of DR Black Beauties that I have yet to try, so I may give them a shot, but I’m thinking GHS Boomers might be a good match for it.

Congrats and Love those Carvin’s ! Ya, I got an “iRig” for my iPhone for situations like that. It doesn’t sound as good as my focusrites do but still sounds really good for the money plus I can record to my phone if I wanted to capture a riff or two. Most I have ever been without power was 3 days and that was a nightmare and everywhere around me at the time sold out of generators ( we don’t usually loose power for that long, I’m outside of Chicago ). Must have felt like an eternity!

Thanks! Love my Carvin brothers; they are my go to’s for most practices and gigs.

As for the power, sad part is this is the 4th time in 8 years we’ve lost power for more than a week. Too many dang trees...

I have a set of DR Black Beauties that I have yet to try, so I may give them a shot, but I’m thinking GHS Boomers might be a good match for it.

Anyone within 100 miles of the coast should have a generator...
you Northern folks also get freeze issues that kill power in the winter...
most folks use firewood/etc, but a generator is awesome

Probably the least maintenance are the Natural Gas ones.
You hook it up to your gas line and forget it until you need it.

And for the 10 pounds of shrimp & everything else in the freezer...
we break out the BBQ grills & smokers pretty much immediately after the storm.
Cook the most delicate stuff first...
and believe it or not, Frozen Pizza on a BBQ grill is truly a taste treat!!
Just don't use charcoal lighter fluid...it imparts an unpleasant taste...
seems to soak right into breads...
