Bergantino NV158? ???

OK, so here are some more.
No doubt the NV115 is warm sounding, much warmer than the 212 or 210. But that was with a warm bass. How about playing something a little gnarly thru it? Like a Thunderbird with rounds and play near the bridge?

Hence, the next batch (hope you are listening to these thru decent speakers or headphones) Again, apologize for not being a pro player, but you get the idea.

NV115:

AE212:

HS210:

Next, I wanted to hear what it would sound like with the 210 and 115 combo ("Berg Stack") and it really sounds good, I think:

Finally, back to warm and round, which is the sound I am after. This is just some noodlin' with the Berg stack, playing an EBMM Bongo 4H (not exactly known as a warm bass) with flats, played thru a Markbass LMTube amp. Warm AND punchy.

That's what I'm talking about!
Thanks for the major GAS.
Man, that sounds great!

The HS210 clip makes me wonder why I sold mine. I do like the sound of the NV115 though. Pretty happy with my HD212 except for the weight...for now. I hate to whine but since my back surgery it is kind of a pain carrying the HD212 up a flight of stairs into the house and then down a flight to the practice room every time we play out. Going to have to go down to Willies in St. Paul and check one out.

Nice playing on those clips. No reason to put a caveat in front of those clips!

96DB? That's less than I hoped for.

Generally speaking, drivers with a lower sensitivity have better low end output. So I see this as a plus for this cab.

For example, the Acme LowB 2x10 cab has a sensitivity of 93db. That cab is known for whopping low end output. As long as you feed it enough power, it will rock the house. And since watts are cheap nowadays, it's not much of an issue for most players.

Going to the other end of the spectrum, Schroeder cabs typically have very high sensitivity. And those cabs are known for being rather middy.

I have the highest respect for Jim Bergantino. He knows what he is doing when it comes to cab design and spec'ing out the drivers for his cabs.

All IMO, of course.

One other comment: another thing I like about Jim is that he rates his cabs conservatively. So when he says the NV115 is rated for 400 watts, you can feel comfortable knowing that the cab can really handle that amount of power, and then some!

I am loving the NV115 so far, and although I have yet to be able to play it at practice/gig volume yet, to help break it in, there is so much goodness in this box I can tell already.

I had the idea to put out some demos of this cab, compared to other Bergantino cabs that I own. Now for starters, I'm no Ed Friedland (or Tom Bowlus, for that matter), so the playing is only gonna be so-so. Now we got that out of the way, I started off with a classic P-bass with flats kinda tune. I intend to add a different format: jazz bass with rounds tune, perhaps tomorrow. I will let you all have some input here as to what works and doesn't work with this format. Just know I tried to play the tunes the same way, there were absoulutely no changes in the head or bass in between takes, just plugging the head into different cabs to hear the subtle differences.

Ok, enough jabber, let's get to it, shall we?

First Up: The NV115

Next: My venerable AE212 (well broken in)

Last: An HS210 (well broken in)

Thoughts, comments, critiques, all encouraged.

Great stuff, Gary, thanks for posting these! I know you mentioned you're using the LM Tube on the last track, what head are you using on the others?

I bet TomBowlus' Dingwall Z3 into a Monique preamp into a Crest C9 into a pair of NV115 would be a near-spiritual experience.

I'm sure it will! Sorry that I haven't been posting much, but it's Memorial Day Weekend, and I've been doing a lot of fun stuff with the family. I'll get back at the NV115 stuff, shortly! :D
