Also i have to agree w/ what Uncletood describes on the bandstand. Too much girthy lows get cut out. Initially we're both talking about the HP's on the Focus 2R III which is the only HP I have exprience w/,but Phil has says he experiences this w/ other HP's as well. Can they all be set higher than they say?

I hope my more complete posts made it clear that that it is the relative phase between two systems that is important. Thus, a phase-reversal switch could be very useful for reducing cancellation between to separate systems.
I don't think companies are very careful about following convention when they spec a HPF for the consumer. They may mark it 30 Hz because that's where the response is down substantially. To achieve that, they may put the "corner" frequency up higher and begin the roll-off there. I use a tunable HPF set at 40 Hz. In my case, the corner really is at 40 Hz. I measured it myself.
When I first started to use it, I thought it might be cutting out the lows BUT it was because I was plugging the HPF into the "active" input of my amp whereas I had been plugging the piezo pickup into the "passive" input. When I plugged the HPF into the "passive" input-- Voila! The problem in the first case seemed to have been the loading and ultimate filtering properties produced by the interaction of the "active" input and the output of the HPF.
