Best $430 I've ever spent...

Pics of my highly modded, stunningly beautiful Precision Bass, at different stages.

Brand New MIM Fender Precision, on clearance from last year: $300
Straplocks: $25
Pearloid Pickguard: $45
Black Knobs: Free gift from a friend
High-Mass Bridge: $60

Finished result: Priceless:smug:

Worth mentioning: I'm just a 16 year old beginner. With a job, and a serious modding problem....:)

Also worth mentioning, a new MIM Fender Precision is over $600 dollars....

He probably mowed lawns, so he could get a PS3 too.
Nope, I have a J-O-B with a P-A-Y-C-H-E-C-K. So I don't get paid to shorten grass...

Also, I go to a tech school and take auto body. Next year I'm going to see if I can get a job at a body shop.

It's 2009, not 1909. Don't underestimate 16 year olds.

I have that bass, a Fender 1x15 amp, a flatscreen tv, a $1,680 per year energy drink addiction, a couch in my room, an $85 dollar cell phone bill, and I pay for it all myself. Working 3-4 days a week....

I love my life :D

I have a similar story about picking up a sweet Precision. I started my day like I always do - a cup of coffee, bowl of oatmeal, and a craigslist search for "bass". I have found a few deals here and there, but this one was the mother lode!

Under a layer of dust thicker than the figurines in my wife's china cabinet, was a near flawless, '03 black-and-white MIM Precision that had been in this guy's closet for about four years - virtually untouched. Aside from one minor ding on the upper horn, all it needed was a good cleaning (and a fresh set of D'Adddario Chromes).

The price - $100.

After playing it for a few days, I decided that I really don't like the bridge very much. In fact, short of the HMV bridges on the newer American Standards, I don't think Fender puts much effort into their bridges. This particular stock bridge had very poor sustain and was ugly, too. I'd always wanted a Precision for that deep, low, almost "upright" sound. Both my '80 Ric and my '07 Jazz Bass have BadAss IIs, and my first instinct is to stay with what I know. But I decided to be different this time.

At first, I wanted to get a KSM bridge, which I believe to be the finest aftermarket bridge available (Invalid Link Removed), but at $150, it was half-again as pricey as the bass. I settled on a very nice Gotoh 201, which adds some sustain, looks great and only cost me only $37 shipped from Warmoth! I haven't blinged the pickuard or knobs yet, but so far I'm only $202 into it including the strings and a nice set-up by The Bass Place in Scottsdale!

That's good work ethic. I used to be rolling in the Benjamins when I delivered pizza. That's how I managed to score the bulk of my gear. I also like that having a couch in your room is a big accomplishment. I also had a couch in my room and I was very proud of it. I didn't buy mine, though. My uncle sold a love seat and couch (with a hideaway bed) to us for $50. My mom put it in our den and eventually got sick of it. Unfortunately, she got rid of the couch before I could express an interest in keeping it. I did manage to salvage the love seat. Some more good news on the couch front, my grandparents are moving and he offered me their old couch (with a hideaway bed; perfect) for helping them move out.

Nice bass, by the way. I suppose that should be said. ;)

Im 16 the first 2grand i got i used it to build myself a comp the 3rd for my 6 stringer and the 4th will be going toward a rig. That's not inclduing cell phone clothes tickets for shows and all the blabla tough

And nice bass :P

Said I had the couch, not bought it (someone gave it to me when they were buying a new one)

Also, good work ethic? Me? ;)

There pretty awesome! i play anything pop punk to classic zeppelin and it really covers all. If you added them you would basically have the same bass i have MIM p bass , 1/4 pounds and a gotoh 201 i think thats an awesome combo for a low price, if you got the cash i'd go for it

amazing bass! good buy! I wish i had a job.. i have an urge to mod my bass... its a MIM Fender Jazz.... natural finish and rosewood neck. and it looks like this:

so i was thinking.. what should i upgrade first? pick-ups or pickguard??

if its the pickguard, what color would you suggest i get?
