best 4x10 cab??

I want a Fearful 4x10.

The problem with this is that all the iterations of the 30xxLF drivers cost about the same. So economically you can do with two 3015LF's what it would take you 4-6 3010LF's to accomplish. You would still need a mid range driver, as none of the LF's are full range. So why would any sane person pay over double for what they can get done for less?

Guys I have to say...Just like on my 410 thread.

Please keep it on the positive side, its like your fearfull folks are on a crusade saying how bad a 410 is...Its getting a bit over the top now.

The original post was on the

"Best 410"

I have nothing against the fearfull design, but please keep it on topic and positive.

My favorite cabs are EV loaded 2x15's but my favorite 4x10 cab of the ones I've owned and gigged with over many, many years is the Mesa Powerhouse.

Agreed, but I like the older (heavier) Mesa 4x10. I'm not positive but I believe it had EV 10" drivers, and had the front shelf porting like their TL606 15" cabs. Those were the first 4x10 I ever heard that could take anything you throw at them without flinching. And could completely wipe guitarists off the stage if need be.
Sometimes they do need to be reminded they are not the only member of the band.
I want a Fearful 4x10.
would that be a vertical orientation? Or could you retain the 2x2 configuration since the mids will have their own drivers?

I had a an Eden 410 (w/Eden WT800) back in the nineties. At the time I was playing a Stingray and going for a more aggressive rock tone. That rig was GREAT for that.

Now I play a Jazz through an SVT 4 Pro into a 410HLF in an alt-country band. Different applications, different rigs, but on the whole I prefer the tone of the Ampeg rig. It's big, it's warm, and you can still hear the individual notes I'm playing. I run this rig bridged mono (1000w supposedly, whatever that means) and I couldn't be happier. The HLF is the fattest sounding 410 I've used, but I've heard very good things about the Berg cabinets.

Now, I do have a question regarding the fEARFULs. I posted on another forum about the fEARFUL 15/6 and was immediately told by numerous sources that a 410 will AWLAYS be louder than a 15/6 simply because of physics. Now, a 15/15/6 would, I bet, be a different story.

I am planning to downsize from a ampeg 810 to.
I use a Svt cl.
Options: mesa ph 410 4 ohms or two mesa ph 2x10 8 ohms each in order to get the 4 ohms.
I´ve been told that the amepg 410 hlf it´s too bummy. I play in a metal band kind of Mastodon, High on Fire, Entombed. Plenty drive.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

ampeg 210AV x2!
i bought one to down size from my '71 fridge, with the thoughts of getting a good 410, but after playing the 210AV, i couldn't think of anything else i would want over a second!

30lbs each, vertically aligned, and very similar tone to my Fridge... can't be beat!

as for a quality 410... well read my above answer. can't be the modularity. i play through one or both with my GK MB800, and its been doing great. plus they can sit like a 410, or stack them 4 high!

I have always had a problem with the term "Best" which is a matter of opinion, and unless you have evaluated them all its impossible to prove which is best.
With that said, I reserve the right to be bias and select this.....

Best is subjective; I think, and, defined by what works very well for you.

Quality is more objective, and can come in different shapes, sizes and forms, many of which might or might not work well for you.

+1

By which I do not mean to imply my Epifani UL1 410 4 ohm cab is anything other than THE BEST IN ALL CREATION. ;) ;) ;)

I had 2 Epifani UL2 410 cabs and they sounded great. But, I have to say my Genz Benz Uber 410 sounds amazing!

Cool, now you're wrong too. The guy said that you won't find a 410 that could "truly" handle 600 watts; the Genz Benz Uber 410 is rated at 1000 and is designed specifically to take the power of such Genz heads as the Shuttle 9.0, which is rated at 900 watts.

Now, we'll take your approach and say that Genz are lying about the specs of the cab, so they become moot. The head is still rated at 900 watts, and there are many testimonials out there of people cranking the Uber 410 with the Shuttle (gigs, rehearsals, etc), and not having any issues with the cab. Now, we'll again take your approach and say that Genz are lying about the specs of the head. Even if that head's true power was only 2/3 of what Genz say it is, that's still 600 watts and the 410 can still handle it comfortably.

You've gotta remember, you're not taking into account cabinet characteristics. Most modern 410's are ported, so you can get extra low end without having to drive as much of it from the speakers, and can instead get more of that power applied to more mid-range frequencies. You'll be beating your head against another crowd now, the one that says speaker size doesn't necessarily affect tone at all. They would argue that a well-enough designed speaker, no matter what size (within some reason of course), can do what you claimed a 10" can't. With some of the technology available in the speaker world now, I dare say they may be right.

In addition to that, my experience with the SWR Goliath just out and out proves you wrong. It's rated at 800 watts and still takes my 900 watt head just fine. Yea yea, I know, my head isn't "truly" 900 watts, but the guy said that a 410 can't take a 600 watt head. That's just outright crap, sorry. My cab is bassy as hell too (I actually have the bass rolled back a fair bit), so low frequency response/handling certainly doesn't seem to be an issue.

I'm a science guy too, but sometimes numbers don't explain reality, even when it comes to man-made technology. And sometimes, you're just not as right as you think you are :)

I agree. Absolutely a fact. I dare you to mention comb-filtering:) But, if someone should...let's also start a thread on our favorite dinosaurs, and how the world is really flat. 410s can sound great, and regarding the footprint, well a bass player deserves his real estate on stage:)
