Best 5-string bass for small hands

Using solid technique can help. Nobody wants to hear this, but it's how I can play a 35" scale 6 string bass at 5'5".

@brocco , Thanks for the reco! The BB735a looks like a fantastic option. How were you able to locate this one in red? I'm only seeing black and dark brown sunburst options online.

I bought mine from a guy here locally and it was the Coffee Burst which I didn't care for so I sent it to Guitarpaintguys and picked their Sinister Red color love it.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been to both GC and Sam Ash, neither carry this bass, and in don't give out cash until I’m sure I want it. That means I’ve played through my gear, and putting it throughly through it’s paces.

You can order one through Sweetwater and try it out at home for 30 days if you dont like it they send you a shipping label via email it cost you 20.00 to ship it back. I have tried several basses this way.

That’s a possibility, knowing me, I’d probably spend $200 in shipping costs before I realized I really liked the 2nd bass. Lol. Thanks again for the info.

Here's an article about basses that work well for small hand players. I concur with others that the full-scale Ibanez SR 5-string basses have a very slim neck, making them easier to play than even the slimmest Fender Jazz model. The lower numbers of the series have a 1.77/45mm nut and a narrow heel and bridge spacing. The SR 805, SR 755, SR505 and SR305, are all good 5-string options for small-handed guys/gals. The SR505 is also narrow at the nut, with a thin neck and very low action, plays beautifully with small hands.
