Dude, it's not a life or death decision. I never break strings so I would have no need for a set of 3. I'd replace them all. So there u go, you have two different suggestions as the guy above me said to save the other 3. Just do whatever you want. And go play a great show.

Talkbass is a good resource, but it can get confusing with all the opinions when you are asking people to make decisions for you. Decide for yourself. You cant go too wrong either way. Gather whatever info you can, but ultimately, only you know how the mixed set sounds/feels. Only you can make that decision. "What should I do?" is only going to have people telling you what they would do, not what you should do in your specific situation. That's on you to figure out

Make sure you aren't getting confused between Round Wound and Round Core. Like stated, most strings you will find in a store are going to be hex core. I have found it much harder to find round cores when I want them. Ernie Balls, D'Addarios, Dunlops, a lot of the Dean Markleys, etc, hex core.

Understood the difference between round core and round wound, just apparently misunderstood the default manufacturing technique.

Very cool. I guess not as many make round core because it is easier for the wraps to slip when strings are cut. I'll be trying out a few new string types and brands in the coming months including nickel low riders, dean market nickel steels, sadowsky blue and black nickels, and others. I'll try to compile a good cover of my personal findings and feelings on them all.
