Best Amp Companies

EA has treated me well. For some reason, I always come up with questions on Friday evening, and Gary answers on Saturday morning.

Also, especially given the challenge of being one of the biggest bass amp companies, GK does remarkably well with customer support.

Genz-Benz: I was considering buying one used, but had a few questions. I could not find the answers on the net... so I called GB. Jeff Genzler answered the phone and proceeded to talk to me for about 15 minutes until I had exhausted all of my stupid questions... and this was on a discontinued, used head. He would have seen $0 on the transaction! VERY cool guy!

When I bought my used GBE600, which was discontinued at the time, I called to see if they still had any footpedals for it. Jeff dug around the warehouse until he located what must have been some of the the last footpedals left. Founder / president of the company, and he takes the time to find me pedals for a discontinued product that, like your amp, he made $0 from me on. This was also before I was an endorser, fyi. Like I said, they treat everyone the same.

Cheers,
Liam

Genz Benz - Great customer service experience. I have to agree GB is second to none!

Mesa - I have always had great customer service from Mesa (ie Steve in sales)

Ampeg - I can't speak for them currently, but in the past I had great support from them as well (Dino was great to work with)

I must throw in my $0.02 for Genz-Benz as well. Nice folks, great products, and super fast replies to emails.

Also, Dave Hall Amps out of the UK. I can't speak for the tone of his new line of amps (hopefully soon!), but as an owner of a DHA pedal, I have been the recipient of hella good service. Their USA sales rep saw a thread on here where I mentioned the power supply being massive. The next day, I received and unsolicited PM offering to mail me a new, smaller supply.

I've had my Carvin SBR1018 for 2 yrs (that's the BX1200 head w/4x10 & 1-18 cabs), haven't had a single issue with it. It's been a great system too me.:) The amp itself got Bass Player Mag. Editor's Pick Award which in itself is respectable. Though, I hear all the time Carvin bashing of their customer service, but then I've had good customer service with them. I have to state that I've bought from the Sacramento, Ca. store and it's a top rate store, hands down. I believe that Carvin's customer service has got to get better as far as providing equal service to all to the best of their ability; not just sometimes. Anyway, I love my SBR1018.:D

+1 for Carvin...I've dealt with their company for years...and I have bought 2 basses a pa system and 2 amps from them over the years. I have always dealt with the San Diego store, and they have ALWAYS been great to deal with. Their custumer service is second to none (IMO) I'm sure that if I ever need any other equipment, they will be my first choice.

I'm relatively new here too, so don't take my sign-wielding smiley the wrong way, but I'd like this thread to stay on the topic.

You can find a lot (a whole lot) of amp talk, including practice amp discussion, lower-price amp discussion, etc. just by using the search function. If you don't find what you're looking for, post your question as the start of a new thread.

I was a little surprised to see Mesa. That is, while their products may be great, I've heard several negative things about ownership and customer service.

Does anyone have any positive or negative Mesa experiences?

Most stories I heard here were of great customer service. Only 2 complaints:

1. Original tubes are overpriced rebranded stuff.
2. Hard to get ahold of via email, phone is the best way to contact them which may be a pain for some but you may even get to talk to an engineer if needed.

I'm glad to see the responses thus far. I think most of us find that, in addition to quality products, it's quality people make a company top-notch.

There have been a lot of companies named but, so far, among those companies that have been mentioned in positive terms, the most mentioned are:

Genz-Benz
Schroeder
Euphonic Audio (EA)

Others who have been cited three times or more:

Ashdown
Peavey
QSC
Galien-Krueger
Mesa-Boogie

Those with negative, lukewarm, or mixed reviews:

Eden
Hartke
Ampeg
Carvin

Keep in mind, this is a relatively small sampling of people; your experience may vary (if so, please do tell.)

Also bear in mind that this thread is addressing those amp/cab companies that are the best to deal with (best communication, customer service, quality control, etc.), not which amplifier(s)/cabinet(s) is/are best.

I recently purchased a bass cab from Acme Sound LTD. I have nothing but good things to say about their customer service. When I called their toll free number I spoke to the owner Andy Lewis. This was on a Saturday and he spent at least a half hour chatting with me about his cabs and anything else. Very knowlegable person, cares about his customers, and all of his business is word of mouth. He does not advertise and his company is selling cabs all over the world. That IMO says volumes about this company. Besides that my new cab is fantastic. I recommend them without hesitation.

Andy Lewis if a fine example of how manufacturers should act. Every time I have had a question about my Acme cabinets he has responded with speed and courtesy. I like Andy lewis and I love his cabinets. I too recommend his products wholeheartedly.

Great service = ThunderFunk. Dave Funk will take care of your problems himself. He's a little busy sometimes, but worth the wait.

Bag End is fantastic too. I must have asked them a million questions when I bought my last cab, and they answered all of them, and transferred me directly to the designers to ask.

Bad = Eden. I had nothing but problems with them when my (not one but two) amps crapped out.
