Best bag or case for cables/misc gear?

I have been using my old army duffle for my extras but I just ordered one of those phitz bags

I have old suitcases.
Mine are from the 40s or 50s and about done for.
Lately, I have noticed my neighbors throwing out
newer, soft sided, heavy nylon types with lots of big pockets.
Free from the curb is within my price range.
I think I'll go that way.
I imagine that I can work out a good system of something like
cables in the middle, adaptors in one pocket and spare batterys in another pocket.

Pick up any suitcase or laptop style bag at Goodwill!

A simple duffel bag will do fine. Having the specialized bags are nice, but aside from having separate compartments for each cable, you're not really gaining much.

I love my Shure bag. Perfect size compartments for cables, mic, etc.

I use one of these. It's not cheap, but I really like not having to take everything out of a backpack to get at the item I want, which is always at the bottom.

How many cables are we talking? power and XLR for band, or just personal as a bass player?

I use a Husky tool box for much of the Band PA stuff..... a second one would complete it. Instead I use a large gym/duffle type bag also. Husky 35 in. Mobile Job Box-222167 - The Home Depot

Looks nice! Yeah, just personal, maybe 8 cables of varying lengths. I have a gruv gear back pack, holds my iPad and some other odds and ends. Really like it, but really no space for cables.

I had a really old laptop bag that was perfect for the purpose. It came frome the time when laptops were still shaped like a brick and steampowered. The laptop compartment itself was perfect for most class D heads (my Little Mark II fit) and the other part was large enough to host all my cables (2x 6m instrument cable, 2x power cable, 2x cabinet cable).
It was old and well used when I got it and has given up on me a while back.

Now I use a standard silver utility suitcase. One of those where you can fix barriers in the interior. My Class D Head goes in there, all the cables and every IEM item plus spare batteries.

I find that when you travel on your own and have to take care of your stuff, soft cases/bags will do the job best.
When you travel as a band, with all the gear loaded into a van, hard casing is a must. Both guitar players and me have such a case for their cables and stuff. The rest is either box shaped (like the cabs) or goes into a case.

I bought a metal case with shoulder strap at Harbor Freight. Inexpensive and works well for mics and cables.

My wife gave me the best tip: put one or two individual cables into a gallon-sized ziplock. Keeps them visible, so you know what you've got, and it keeps them flat like an envelope--they take up much less space in your back, and they are pretty much stackable at that point.

I use a $15 plastic carrying toolbox from home depot for cables I need to bring every time.

I'm curious how many cables you're bringing - I usually only have one, maybe two (as a backup). When I used to play with a larger rig I would have everything pre-wired to remedy this.

But when I have to bring my PA I use a big rolling container from Home Depot or something. Needs wheels and a handle
