Best bag or case for cables/misc gear?

Those cable fly bags from Amazon are cool.

I use metal tool boxes from harbor freight. They are about $20-ish. I think the black ones have pluck foam. At one time I had three (bass gear, PA gear, merch). I now use one for bass gigging stuff, and a plastic bin for pa cables and extension chords.

I use a large duffle bag that has a small storage section on each end. It is big enough for all cables, two stands and extension cords. Also here is a suggestion for any one that needs to carry a spare tube. If someone else has thought of this I apologize but, I found that you can put a spare tube in one of those hard shell eyeglass cases

I've recently started using a plastic 5 Gallon bucket.

I could double my storage if I get another bucket and a long stick to balance them on my shoulders. That way I can tote other stuff with my hands.

Just some kind of basic SKB case is what I use. Kind of looks like a big square mic case, but is empty inside, has a locking flap in the lid.

Hit up an Army surplus store. Lots of bags, backpacks, ammo cases, footlockers , etc on the cheap.

I have the phitz stage duffle as well as the medium cable bag.

The stage duffle carries bass specific items as well as a few mic cables and a 4 channel fan to fan xlr snake. All of the items that need for a gig where I'm playing bass and interfacing with the pa to run my self contained in ear rig.

The medium cable bag contains more xlr as well as a 30ft 8 channel xlr drop snake for when I need to mix the band sound through my rig.

I like the phitz bags better than other duffle type bags because they are somewhat rigid and can easily stack on top of each other when mostly empty while still holding their shape.

I know the OP has made a choice but I'm going to reinforce KBDs suggestion that surplus stores usually have a cr*p-ton of bags like that Phitz in all sizes Off-label stores like Ross always have a big selection of sports duffles, rolling luggage etc. All my recorder (woodwind) stuff goes in an old rolling carry-on that was $5.00 at a goodwill.

I use cheapo duffle bags... the $10-or-less kind. Why?

• Cheap... I'd rather put more of my money into basses & amps
• Durable... not to say others aren't but these are good enough
• Don't really need Fort-Knox-level protection for cables & junk
• Don't really need to make a fashion statement
• Easily replaceable at the local bigboxmart
• No personal attachment... if they get dirty or messy I don't care
• Thieves look for shinier baubles
• When empty they don't take up a lot of space

Go to a hardware store and pickup a rolling tool box. I have one that can fit lots of cables and a couple of Ultimate Support guitar stands.

Laptop backpacks are pretty handy, and can be had cheap at second hand stores. Lots of zippered pockets, usually plenty of padding etc...

I use those giant bags they give out at Ikea. They hold a TON of crap, are super strong, and scrunch into a fist sized ball.

I use a similar bag I stole from REI. I like the mesh because I can see at a glance what I packed and whatnot. like a frisbee and stuff.

Big fan of luggage for cases- I have a hard shell, center split case (two equal size compartments on each side with zipper cover and pockets) with wheels that works perfectly. Can't beat the cost, you can buy a new one at half the price of the music store cases and it's just as good, for me it's actually better.

I currently have four of these. 1 for my amp, 1 for my pedal board, 1 is my "gig bag", & one for extra cables n such. Hard case and they pack/stack easy. Places like Home Depot ect carry these as well. I got all mine on sale for $19 each. They also come in black for a couple bucks more. Much better that soft cases IMO.

I have a gig bag; expensive instrument cables go in there. I also have a blue tote with a fliptop lid. All my cables, power strips, and pedal board go in there. It's pretty easy to set up. I usually am show ready on stage and tuned up before both guitarists have their amps up.
