Double Bass Best bass bag?

It's great that Mooradian is back in business!

Meanwhile, my Kay went to a new home before the pandemic, and my old case went with it, so I had an excuse for a new case and got a Bobelock from my friendly neighborhood luthier. The quality seems good, and it has held up well for weekend-warrior use.

The Bobelock is the best bag under 250, imo. I have a friend who owns a music shop and he wholesaled a new one to me for 135 bucks, and that lasted me for YEARS until I sold that bass, got a new bass and with it, a custom Messina bag.
Seriously, it's a great bag, and better padding and zippers than the Mooradian, imo. Highly repairable if need be, readily available and not expensive to replace.

I don't know if reunion blues are still making bags, but mine is going 20 years and is still intact.
These bags are thick, heavy and tough, with leather, rivets and heavy padding.
Soundwear bags are also excellent, but lighter.
Buy the best you can afford, a good bag is a great investment.
My knowledge is probably outdated as I have not researched this area in recent years.

Bobelock is great! Mooradian quality changed a bit over time but I was fortunate to have one made in the 90s fall my way in great shape which I plan to keep. Messina makes very good bags and I would recommend one if the intention is to keep it for decades. They are getting to be quite expensive, but worth it.

I agree. In reality, 500 for a case in the long run is a couple sets of strings, and the protection offered by a Messina case is paid for many times over by the number of trips to your luthier you WON'T have to take and pay for. IMO, carrots, etc.

Mooradian Bags are back in production!

I spoke with Emily when I went to pick up a bag they were refurbishing for me shortly before they closed the doors. She told me she enjoyed the work and planned to continue to offer repairs and maybe custom builds out of her house.

To the question about why they shut down, Emily and her father could not find anyone interested in buying the company. They simply could not compete with the price of imported bags.
