They pedal they use is the Danelectro DD-1 Fab Tone.
I haven't used it on bass but it is a fantastic pedal on guitar. More of a fuzz than a distortion really.

Best bass distortion sound ever?

I haven't used it on bass but it is a fantastic pedal on guitar. More of a fuzz than a distortion really.
Everyone has their own idea of "best" distortion so I don't know if it's the best bass distortion sound ever, but it's probably the best bass distortion sound in a video where a kid played an old bass drum and later throws it on the ground.......almost for sure.

It is flat out hilarious how many people come on this forum and make a big stink about how real bassists only play fingerstyle or slap, never with a pick; and they want the most elaborate and perfect onboard preamp, and the most perfect selection of exotic tonewood, and they want the "flattest" most high fidelity ultralight compact speaker cab, and they want an amp that "truly lets them hear what their bass really sounds like", with "true fundamental reproduction"...
...And then most of them come in here at least once to ask "how does he get the distortion in this video?".

Hilarious. I had a conversation with a guitarist in a music store once about this. He stuck up his nose when I said I play with a pick sometimes, so taking a cue from his tshirt, I grabbed a guitar and told him to play his favorite Slayer song only fingerpicking. Ridiculous. I've hit the strings of my bass with a drumstick to get a certain sound too. It's all tools, people. If it sounds good...
That said, there's a lot more going on there than just a cranked SVT, so thanks for the ideas of where to look. The quest continues...
