I would say musicman stingray/sterling, both are great basses for almost any style, or you could try to get an Aria SB1000 like Cliff Burton and Rudy Sarzo used to play, really nice basses (check out the pic).

There have been a lot of these kinda threads around lately and to be honest I don't think you need a specific kinda bass to play metal or punk or any style, it's all in the way you play. I mean you could play metal on a Ken Smith and still sound horrible. My "old" bass teacher very often uses an ordinary Squire P bass, but man does he sound awesome!

Nu-metal is more like drowning pool, disturbed, korn, and many other not-so-good bands.

Nu-metal bands are more like System of a Down.
They don't suck, they're just another breed of metal....
And yes you can use almost any bass to play metal as long as you know how to do it loud, fast, and horrendously beautiful.

For me Metal will always Be Iron Maiden or Metallica, for some reason bands Like Korn, Sis of the Down and SlipKnot etc don't appeal to me.
