Was either one soft? I think not.
I use an ATK an older version that i got with an amp sold the amp for 20$ more then I paid for both it and an ATK , so i was given 20$ to take the bass
That ATK through an 800RB Gk with 2 410 GK cabs all of which was super cheap, under 600$ for the whole rig, bass , cables and all.
I dont get why more punk players dont use ATK's there perfect and cheap .
Ive got an atk, and love it. as many have said on TB before, theyre really versitile and underrated.
Yes for sure , I honestly think the more underrated then t-40's are. ATK's can be found so cheap and they out play so many basses, I perfer my atk over my 1500$ fender.

i got my 1995 ATK300 for $100 WITH a boss TU-2 tuner.
I prefer 15's, so i usually use my 400rb ($70) through an ampeg b25-b 2x15 ($150) or a peavey 6x10 ($80). If it;s not my GK it's my Kustom200 ($120), which is a CRIMINALLY underrated head.
I've been toying with upgrading to an 800rb... but i've never had output problems with the 400rb...
+1 on the ATK's being more underrated than the T40. After playing all the T series Peaveys, i think the T45 is really the sleeping dragon of the bunch... but i still love my T20.
Thats all pretty sweet deals, my ATK was made in 1995 as well! I have thought about selling my 800RB in favor of a 400RB because I feel there just as good and all I really need, but it would be a sin to sell an 800RB
I am fine with ATK's being underrated because I have since been able to get another for super cheap because not many people dig them , I really dont know why.
ive been lookin at getting another, before the prices go up cause they arent making as many any more and the used ones will probably get rarer. hopefully not though, i want another to go along with my 305

Heh, I was just listening to Fresh Fruit yesterday in my car and digging Klaus' J tone. It still kicks ass.
His tone in general is just flat out good (for him most likely not giving a **** about it). Holiday in cambodia,imo, has one of the best punk bass tones of all time.
Klaus is pretty cool he has his own web page and will answer any question you ask pretty much including his setup, I talked to him a bunch and he said let me know next time your in san fransisco, this was a few years ago and I totally forgot about this chat we had.

My band played the Insub Fest the first year with the Beatnik Termites and Mopes. I couldn't make it out this year but it sounds like there was a bunch of issues with the Sonar Bar and they won't be doing it in Baltimore next year. Here are some photos of your band I found to spice up this thread.

Hahaha. Woah! Thanks for those photos, they look awesome! (er... too conceided to say "I look awesome", huh?)
I was talked into helping the other two days by Pat (from the Beatnick Termites... who'se my band's drummer
). The problems were strange... Basically, Sonar and the fest were 'sponsored' by PBR, so the PBR's were $3, while EVERYTHING else was $4+... even when they sold out of PBR. This made a TON of people mad (i don't drink so i didn't care). The fest also has a Burger crew that has always sold food at the past fest... but Sonar was not cool with it this year. Finally, on Saturday, Sonar imposed a strict 'no re-entry' policy... because people just went and bought beer and drank in the parking lot on Friday. I can't blame them...
Other than the monitary things like that, everything ruled. The bands were all awesome (Less Than Jake played 'Loosing Streak' front to back giving me a highschool-nostalgia-overload). The crowd was really cool too. Unfortunatly, for fests, at the end of the day, it's all about $$$, and the no-reentry thing severely botched the purchacing of merch (via people not wanting to hold stuff all day).
So, while i haven't heard anything from the Insub guys (Pat and Chris), wherever it's held next year, it will still rule and be 110% better than what the Warped Tour has now become.
To Sonar's credit though, they didn't set up guard rails... so stage-dives a-plenty all weekend!! Their staff/security/bartenders/sound-guys were all extremely rad!

Man, that tidbit of LTJ info makes me jealous. I really wanted to go to this this year, but i had to choose this or THE FEST. So i chose the fest.
And every problem you outlined sounds exactly like the past few years of the festin gainesville. Its getting bad there.
Also, punk player here, and nothing but j's in my gear room. Gotta love the tone of a j into a blasted ampeg.
Man, i hope nothing shady goes down with The Fest. I love it! Atom and His Package at The Fest 7 was amazing!!
I live in MD, so i luck out with Insub Fest. I usually end up debating between The Fest and Dude Fest (Indianapolis).
One of the best tones at Insubfest was from the bassist of the Smoking Popes, who used a Jazz through an Ampeg CL + 8x10!!
Ha, im in florida, so the fest is easiest for me to get to. But its always a toss up, bands i really want to see that dont tour that often (the fest) or bands that dont tour down this way often (Insub fest).
And I saw the smoking popes last year. They sound amazing live.
Two played a P, one was the Univox Hi Flyer player.
it was really striking how good their tone was as well. It sounded just AS punk as a pick... but had a little more definition to the attack. They all worked the fretboard a LOT, so the distinction and clarity of the notes played on different strings was just awesome.
It wasn't 'better' per sey... it was just... different.
Haha, I was actually the only one there that used pick AND fingers (excluding dudes that dropped picks
). For my band, i just use what the tone calls for. I use a pick more though... for our set it was 8 songs with a pick and 2 with fingers.
