Best Bass For Thrash Metal?

What kinda guitar sound are you up against? Heavier orientated Jazzes and stuff like that sound cool, but there are some situations where some really metal sounding pickups sound much better, you know, the really unorganic growl you get from some REALLY metal basses.

Didn't someone just post a thread like this? http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=468442 Some of those suggestions might help. (Mind the predictable jokes in that thread. Especially mine.)

The usual suggestions seem to be that almost any bass will work provided that it's 1) set up for fast playing and 2) can be EQ'd to cut through the drums and guitars. I tried out a Geddy Lee (Fender Signature) and found some bad ass metal tones on it and it looks weird enough.

Except for Cliffs had a Gibson Mudbucker in the neck position and a Fender Jazz pickup in the bridge position!






IMO, anything with an agressive bridge pickup(humbucker preferred), and easy playability.

Pink is a bonus!

I've been around the block with the thrash band I'm in now and I've tried a couple of basses, but none compare to the sound of a Rickenbacker

Me says PJ configuration on basswood or alder does a very very nice old school trash type of tone. If you can grab an 80's jackson or Charvel, it should do the job just fine.

And, if I could have any bass for metal, It'd be a warwick, more for death metal...but they're still really good!

Thrash metal? Old school Jackson Concert bass in black with sharkfin inlays. Its the only way to go.

+1. i play death metal and te sr/srx series necks are the thinnest ive ever found, both through playing and researching on neck widths. 34mm at the nut, 24 frets, and the body is cutaway so you can access the higher frets with relatively little difficulty. well balanced, and just plain comfortable...
