I'd be shocked if you already heard of an underground band called Om. It's a two man band... with a bassist and a drummer. Check it out. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea.

That record blew my mind (along with Nude Ants, Palle Danielson w/Keith Jarrett, especially, IIRC the track Chant of the Soil).
Italian bass maestro Alberto Rigoni, whose bass playing gives a consistent part of their sound to the prog band Twinspirits, is about to release his third solo CD "Three Wise Monkeys".
This one is mostly prog, as was the second one "Rebirth".
Half sung half instrumental, with guest appearances by Kevin Moore (ex Dream Theater, OSI) and Göran Edman (ex Malmsteen, Karmakhanic...)
It's self produced and meets extremely high standards in terms of engineering and mixing.
Some extracts can be found on YouTube before the official release on October 1st.

It was mentioned on the first page. I don't really think they're that underground. If you listen to stoner metal or anything sludgey, you've probably heard of them (or at least of Al).
In the Stoner/Doom Bassist thread, Om is brought up on an almost daily basis.
Dang it's great to hear FREE mentioned here. Their catalog is so underrated. And yes that live album is great.
Marvin Gayes What's Going On project featuring both James Jamerson and Bob Babbitt is arguably the greatest bass oriented album ever. Of course the songs, vocals and arrangements aren't too shabby either.
Clatter - hard not to be bass-centric when the band consists of a bass player and drummer. Especially fantastic if you're a fan of Ricks.
