Best bass preamp?

I think one of the best sounding as well as biggest bangs for the buck is a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. The range of useful tones in this thing has to be experienced to be believed. Still just $99 on intro pricing direct.

The Linden would make a fine preamp and really sounds great.

Up till lately, MXR M81 has served me well especially with IEM scenarios. I am now using the new Nordstrand Starlifter Bass pre-amp DI which has different EQ centers than the MXR and gives a pretty darn clean and transparent signal with PLENTY of output signal. The Starlifter is a great choice if your passive bass could use some musical tweaking/boosting before your amplifier stage.

I’ve gone through an embarrassing number of preamps, rack and pedal. I love the MXR M80, cheap and versatile. The GK Plex is also one of my favorites. But the one I’ve been using for live and recording for the past six months is the Tech21 Q/Strip. It’s not a dedicated bass preamp, so it can be used for anything. My favorite features are the high and low pass filters, and the parametric eq.

Currently I’m using a MXR M81 Bass Preamp (and I love it). I’m using it on my pedalboard. But, I’m looking at picking up either another M81 to carry in my gig bag (when I’m not using my pedalboard) or maybe trying a different preamp/di. Any suggestions?

No longer in production and came in “ stereo “ models . Find em on your fave sites

I have the Subway pre-amp DI and I love it. I use it with my Fender Rumble 500. I plug it into the RETURN to bypass the Fender preamp which is quite a bit noisier than the Subway. I find it very easy to get my tone and it has enough output to drive any power amp. It also gives you 2 DI's which you can setup 1 of them as either pre or post while the other is a dedicated preamp out. Not cheap but it is the last preamp I'll buy. (maybe)

The Starlifter kills...I love it.

I've owned a bunch and my favorite is the MXR M-80. I broke down and ordered a Noble and am still waiting on it but if you're looking to for something reasonably priced, the M-80 is hard to beat. Currently using it in conjunction with the Omnicabsim deluxe and it's awesome. My soundman loves it and he was mixing for a much bigger touring act(they did a few arena tours as an opener) before going on the road with us. It also records really well too.

Two Notes Le Bass is kind of a pain in the neck (large size, uses an odd voltage) and colors your tone a lot, but WOW does it sound great. I’m currently sniffing around for something smaller to take it’s place, but I’m not very optimistic that I’ll find something that sounds this damn good.

It really depends what you are looking for in a preamp. But the answer is always Broughton.

Clean, little character, powerful Eq - Broughton Messenger

Fender/Alembic sound: Broughton Super Stack or Broughton Silver Deluxe

Ampeg SVT sound: Broughton Sv-pre

Traynor / Solid state grind: Broughton Helion, Broughton MonoBlock

all around character, fatness, bass boost: Broughton Designer Sub (Southampton Ictineo)

Tube character: Broughton archetype, Broughton Super Stack, Broughton Archetype Boost, Valvecaster

Studio strip / Neve Console: Broughton Studio one

Helios Hendrix console: Broughton Phaeton
