And WD-40 will Instantly kill the sound of your strings. You're just loading the windings with light weight oil.
I don't think WD-40 is oil. I understand it was not designed as a lubricant. I believe WD=Water Displacement - and the liquid is propellant that evaporates leaving behind dry chemical.
I left a set in the metho for a few days & that set did break one string.
Since then I've only left strings in for 24hrs & had no probs at all

Nickel and stainless steel are two of the more corrosion-resistant metals around. Now, if you had soaked them for a month in vinegar or Coca Cola...

I'm lookin' for a good string cleaner that really prolongs the string life. I use stainless bass strings, but even those fall victim to getting "gunked up" and lose their sound when you don't clean them. I need a good cleaner that'll keep my strings in good shape and keep their tone. Recommend some that you've had good luck with?
if you use fast fret by ghs regularly as well as regular wiping the strings will retain their zing and cleanliness for a pretty long time
And as always, would love to hear your thoughts on them and how they compare to many of these options.
