At the end of all this gear talk is the fact that we're using these instruments to play music. Just because a bass is made better, looks better, or plays better doesn't mean it will speak to you musically.
The OP is asking which might work better for certain musical styles. I don't think cost or craftsmanship is where we should focus on this one. And oh by the way, I have a Fender Am dlx Jazz with a Maple board that I just don't love for Jazz. I've heard that same bass with a Pau Ferro board sound amazing for Jazz. Its not about the maker, its about the musicality of the bass. (in my opinion)
