How is this for bass? I believe this one is supposed to be a clone of the diamond comp correct?

Best budget bass compressor pedal???

Surprisingly I finally settled on a OD pedal… DOD bass overdrive which I got used for like $50. Sounds fantastic!
TC Electronic Forcefield could be worth a look.
I'm not doing studio recording that would probably require a higher functioning unit, but I shopped a cheap comp pedal for keeping my volume spikes in check when playing shows at healthy volume. I often play without PA support, so the Forcefield has been useful.

These would have been my recommendation as well, but yowzer! Amazing how value can increase if you look away for just a second. I still got my Mk1 with the box and all the paper stuff.
Does this mean you’re no longer in the market for a compressor, or…?
One question to ask is what do you intend to use the compressor for? What’s your use case, playing style, genre, and equipment chain?
So ok, that’s like half a dozen questions, but it’s really all about the first one.
Shalltechnik 4 ”Pumpernickel”. Its a bit more expensive than 50 $, but worth it. Better to pay a bit more and get a comp that really works. Than buy some very cheap comp that only makes your sound worse.

I try to buy used. Everything. I of course am picky so I search around until I find “it”.
With something like this, I’d go to Guitar Ctr used pages once you find a couple that you like. Many don’t like GC but they will take returns. Buy on A/E for some backing just in case, they have always been on “my side” in an issue.
If you don’t need all the fine adjustments try the Aguilar 599. Simple to use and for me I leave it on all the time so I have it mounted in the back of my rack. Yea I know….. racks are not in vogue so I’m told. But when you haters buy my gear ……. So ok trying to be funny, I just finished my first espresso.
So if you use a board it’s small too. As with any purchase, know what you want and start looking.

No compressor is better than a bad compressor. Save the money until you can come up with a better budget.

Cheap does not mean bad (although, yes, most cheap compressors are), expensive does not equal good (although the best tend to be quite expensive). There are plenty of decent compressors to be had for less money, depending on your use case.
This is a Boss CS-3 clone, which doesn't generally have the best reviews for bass. There are probably better options even at the price.

For $50, unless you get something used, don't get anything. Or maybe try out some plugins?
