Best budget bass compressor pedal???

The title says it all… would love to hear everyone’s suggestions so that I can make an informed buying decision. My budget would be like $50 max… unfortunately, I can’t afford something expensive.

I feel like spending $50 on a compressor would just be like throwing away $50. I’d probably just wait until your budget expands a bit, maybe keep an eye on the classifieds. But, someone else might have better advice for you if they have any experience with low budget compressors.

that's a toughy... It might be possible to find that used. The closest I could suggest is:

Look for an old BBE Opto Stomp that were yellow with red lettering. These are great compressors and used to go for $50-$75.

EDIT: Just did a check and these older ones appear to have increased in value and may be outside your price range at $125-$160.

Get a kit for an Engineer's Thumb, IF you have a soldering iron. You can find them built up already on reverb for like $70.

I do. It is good. I haven’t played a real Cali, but it’s pretty good, especially at 18v. You can look up others reviews here. JohnK is respected by many here and he gave it a favorable review.

I may list mine as I ended up getting another compressor that popped onto my radar that I wasn’t expecting.

Double your $$, buy something decent, and be done with it. Best buy at the moment is a Seymour Duncan Studio Bass for $105 in the TB classifieds.

The little Mooer Yellow compressor is not terrible.

Just remembered the Joyo Scylla. Got to try that one out and it’s pretty darn good. It’s 70 on Amazon, but there’s a 20% off coupon right now, which takes it down closer to OP budget. Scylla just as good as the Call, I just preferred the controls and tone of the Call.

That Kooko just seemed like a boost pedal to me. There was hardly any compression at all to it. Maybe I got a crap one, don’t know.

I agree with the above sentiment that you're more likely to be throwing away $50 instead of striking gold. Save your money, you really don't need a compressor. But, I also understand budgets and the need for a new pedal. Any used gear stores in your area? That would be your best bet but by the time you drive around to a few stores over the weekend, you end up spending $40 in gas.

for $50.00? I got nothing.
But for around $75, you can pick up a TC Spectracomp - and it's a great little compressor.
The key is to spend a bit of time to figure out the software to tweak it.

I know you WANT a compressor, but why do you feel you NEED a compressor.

It would probably be best to determine exactly how you would use it and what application you actually need it for before you just toss $50 at something that says it’s a compressor.
