I'd tell him to shine up that resume. they closed something like 50 entire stores last year and there have been several that have ripped the guitar sections out entirely. The on in my town hasn't received new inventory in well over a year and now has everything marked down. That doesn't sound like clearing space for new models to me it sounds like a going out of business sale.

Best Buy is a funny creature. They drove Circuit city out of business by selling at bare minimum, now they have started cutting their own throat....LOL. To funny.

As poorly nformed as their staff is in electronics, I would not think to buy an instrument there.

Even GC would be better......did I just say that? :eek::D

Just went.

US Standards Specials are about $810 and $660, respectively. Sonic Blue Squier P was $240. VM Jazzes are about $200.

I liked a MIM Thinline Tele, but it had a couple dings and was dated '08. I was told no further discounts on clearance stuffs.

I called the Memphis store near the GC. He said they have two Am. Std. basses left. P-Bass in 3TS/maple for $805.00. Jazz in that same color scheme for $849.00. Just passing this on in case anybody in my area is looking for one...

Like I said I was told, regional managers are to shut down instrument sales on a case by case basis. I suppose that could mean some stores are at liberty to continue purchasing if they are among the few not losing money on instruments.

Itwill, however, come to a point where BB as a whole can't buy enough, because most stores stop selling instruments, that they will have a hard time keeping profitable at the final locations because their buying power is gone with the distributers.

They will, in effect, be below the critical mass where they can allow any to remain selling instruments at all and those will have to go, even if currently not losing money.

I've lived inside the retail demon, this is how losing segments slowly die.

And +1 on the resume, usually people in positions at risk are the last to find out about it.

That's the thing about buying from BB: NO after-purchase support, particularly now that they're done with MI's completely. You may have an easier time dealing with a warranty issue should you need if you're the orig owner, but otherwise, it's akin to buying used in most respects, IMHO.

There were 2 near me that sold MI. One closed last August. The other store will discontinue MI on 5/1. 2 weeks back they had (3) US Fender basses with really high action. Was there Sunday, and 1 of the basses had sold. From what I recall, any stock that does not sell goes to a liquidator, and then probably ends up on Ebay.

The one in Clearwater, FL had the big MI room, too.

It shares a parking lot with GC.

I thought that was the stupidest thing they could have done. They don't belong in that market and should have begged to get knowledgeable people to staff it. No musicians behind the counter eventually always means no musicians in front of it, either.

Here in the Phoenix area the only BB carrying musical instruments is at Fiesta Mall in Mesa. I picked up an American Special jazz. They still have an American Standard P for $809 and an American Special P for $646. There's also a modern player but I forget the price.

Strings are about gone and they have some smaller combo amps and the Hartke Hydrive cab as well as a small Eden head and cab.

This will give me a reason to scope out the two nearest Best Buy with MI sections near me. A few weeks ago, I saw several guitars marked down. FWIW, one of which was a Fender MIJ Jaguar, all black and gorgeous (minus the 10,000 fingerprints on it). Regular price was ~750, marked down to 375. Now, if it were a MIJ Jaguar BASS...it would have been MINE, no hesitation! I saw no basses marked down then, save for a couple of entry-level Scheckys.

There might be a store in Tempe that sells instruments. The guy who helped me asked if I wanted him to call that store and see what amps they have in stock. I declined. There was no way I wanted to drive through Tempe at 5:00 on a Friday.
