I pulled the trigger on the Am Std P 3 tone burst with maple neck for $808. I had about 250 in reward zone and store credit so I walked out with it for about $575. Put that on my best buy credit card and got 18 mo free financing. Man that was a sweet deal. I'll be stopping by frequently as they put more on clearance. Might pick up an extra case or gig bag, maybe a pedal or two.

Nope. I live in Delaware, home of the DuPont family…as in DuPont Chemicals. They were, and probably still are, as close to American Royalty as you'll ever get…like the Rockefeller family or any other robber-baron dynasty.

Thus, The Archduchy of DuPont. Get it? :D

A lot of the BB prices quoted here are close to those you'll find on craigslist.
There's a better chance of getting a hardshell case and having the instrument set-up, if you get it from a decent person on craigs, too.
I'd also rather give my money to a decent person from craigs than get something from BB that has been ill-treated by who knows how many people.
There is such a glut of decent gear on craigs, at least here in the Tampa area, that none of those BB deals sounds that great.

Yeah, West LA and Hawthorne both have MI clearance. I mentioned the prices on noteworthy items earlier in the thread. According to the PDF posted above, there's also clearance at Fox Hills Mall where there's a great food court if you like cheap tastes of the Orient.

I stopped by a local store and played a couple of Am. Special P-basses for $649. I have mixed feelings about that model, so I'm on the fence. I might stop back... dunno.
They had a fair selection of the Squier stuff for cheap and I'll probably send a friend over who's looking for a cheap J-bass.

The American Special is a great model. I'm not sure what your issue is with it but I'd suggest playing it!!!

I did play it. I played two.

Pros: Really like the neck shape. Lightweight body. Nice sound. Handsome bass.

Cons: Bridge and tuners are bottom-of-the-barrel. Don't like matte finish on neck. Greasebucket tone control not really my thing. Quite a bit of fret sprout on both I played.

The tone control's no big deal. An easy, 10-minute fix for under $10. The fret sprout's no big deal either. The finish on the neck could be rubbed out with micro-mesh to some degree, but will never really be a gloss finish (which I prefer). The cost of better hardware would bring the bass back into the price range of a used Am. Standard.

Is it a good bass? yes. Is it right for me? Probably not, but I haven't ruled it out just yet.

i just whipped out to our local one. tons of gear there.
I had been trying to catch a 60's CV P on here forever, picked one up brand new for 2 bills. Figured if I hated it, i could make some $ on the bay!

most of their strings were gone though.

I hit the local Best Buy in Fullerton, CA to see what they had left. They actually had quite a bit including about a dozen basses I wasn't interested in. I asked the clerk if he expected prices to drop any further but he said probably not as they could return the unsold merchandise to their vendors. I picked up a Hosa Pro cable for half off. Strangely, the 20' version was $1 cheaper than the 10'. :confused:

The real score came on a beginners guitar kit for $6.99 (regularly priced at $29.99) that included one 10' Hosa cable, one 5' Hosa cable (to leave in my truck for emergencies), a Hosa patch cable, a cheapie strap, a half dozen picks, and a bottle of guitar polish. Not a bad deal at all!
