Best cable for the money?

I had some Fender ToneMaster cable that I hated. They coil big time. I can leave the things stretched straight out across the room and come back later to find them coiled. A friend recommended Planet Waves. So far they seem to work fine, which to me means no excessive coiling

Maybe I'll try the George-L's next time I'm in the market. Does everyone use the .155 or the .255 ?

Sometimes you have to untrain cables, by pulling the cable through your fingers forcefully (I'm sure there are better ways). It always sucks when you try to over under a cable that wants to coil.

I have a cable from Bayou and would love to order more, but they take soooooo long to get. I could learn how to make them myself and start my own business in the same time it takes to get one cable.

I did! Bought a soldering station, a few hundred feet of Canare cable and a selection of G&H and Neutrik ends and went to town. It paid for itself in less than two months. Nothing against Butch, but I'm glad he kept putting me off now.

A buddy of mine at church (sound tech...and does an awesome job!!) Showed me the difference between the cheapest and some of the higher end cables. I learned that a 20 ga. compared to an 18 ga. aint much of a difference in size, thickness, etc., etc. BUT, what I did find is the way the cable is constructed make a world of difference. Sheilding and durability are what I now look for in a cable. Next, I look at the plug. I lean towards Neutrik because the construction, durability and the stress chuck that allows the cable to be protected at the soldering points. I have made a number of cables now, using Canare (in red) and Neutrik components. And I'm saving more than half of what a Mogami Gold would normally cost for an 18' run. Also, both my pedalboards are equipped with said components. No degredadtion in sound whatsoever!!!

With that, homemade cables are what I recommend. Or have someone that knows how to solder make them for you.

I read above that I will lose treble with the Monster Cables...is this so even on short runs of 21'? Is it noticeable to those with normal hearing?

So, anyway, how much am I losing here? American Deluxe Active bass into an SVT-3 Pro, playing either flats or tapewounds. My hearing is not keen enough to tell the difference.

A short run with a Monster "bass cable" would be a few feet long. At 21 ft the effect would be very noticeable. If you're playing your bass with the preamp engaged, you won't notice anything different comparing cables. I gave away my 12 ft Monster bass cable to a kid with an active bass. I'm still a little embarrassed I ever owned one, but to be fair, Sam Ash replaced it with no questions asked after my friend broke one of the plugs.

I use Peavey cables, and yes, I can hear a difference between cables. Monster cables are too noisy for my tastes.

Mogami for me. I had a Planet Waves for 4 years and it finally died on me. I was gonna get another because of the lifetime warrantee, but they didn't have the one I needed so I got a Mogami, and it is phenomenally better. Plus I got the Mogami for free.
