"Best" Envelope filter for bass?

The MXR is very good for the price. I love my EHX Enigma Q-Balls.

Envelope filters have pretty unique sounds from pedal to pedal. It shouldn't be that hard to get an idea of which ones have the sound you are going for by listening to demos on youtube.

It amazes me that the Xotic Robotalk 2 is not the go to filter for more TB'ers. I have had mine for a couple years and it still blows me away how good it sounds, how easy it is to set up and how well it works with all types of basses. The master clean blend and independent volume controls for each channel are simply brilliant.

I tried the Robotalk 2 in a boootik shop here about 18 months ago. Wasn't there for a filter and the salesguy sort of insisted I try it so I did, just to shut him up. Great filter, sounded great with the Jazz Bass I was handed and the twin filters thing is an interesting option. Not in my horizon for now, but definitely a great pedal and yes, it's a wonder why it's not getting more hype.

If price is no object : the VB99

You get like 10 different filter type sounds + a very very good Mutron emulation (with tweeking)
And the octavers tracking are perfect even on the low B.

Sell all your pedals and get this.
Or like I did : before you buy a truck load of pedals , get this.

I played bass for years without a single effect on the floor, and then decided to get a Digitech BP200.... it actually ruined effects for me for quite some time (my ignorance back then was probably more to blame, however).

When I decided to get back on the train, the first dedicated pedal I got was a used QBalls from the FS section here. It took me about a month to really figure the thing out with absolutely no effects experience. But it is just SO DAMN tweakable that if it had presets I don't know if I'd even try other filters. I have gotten some very subtle midrange punch all the way to sopping wet filthy funk dripping out of my cabinet.

Be careful with that start knob, if you move it 2 degrees too far... you can knock out a wall with the spike.

I'd love to try all the others mentioned above, but I'm not ditching the Enigma to do it. It'll have to be a surplus-cash type of thing!

Agreed, it's a very under appreciated filter. I love mine.

I also agree. It would be SOOOO cool if it had presets, but I don't find it hard to dial in. The Qballs rewards patience more than any other pedal I've owned. Get the distortion pot mod so you can tweak it anytime. If you like synth/fuzz tones, or adding just the right amount of grit to the filter, you'll be glad you did!
