"Best" Envelope filter for bass?

I have a ToneFactor Analogue Filter, been considering swapping it for an Emma Discombobulator (perhaps my fave all-time fx name!). It goes before everything in the signal chain, even compression, as filters are so dependent on the dynamics of the incoming signal.

Before. For me, they go right after the tuner.

Cool! I have it in between. A Zvex Wooly Mammoth and EBS Multidrive before and an EHX Big Bass Muff and Sansamp BDDI after.

BTW, I use a Boss Dynamic Wah. It's ok, the main reason is that I'm just borrowing it. Really don't need a filter except for on one song.

To be honest, as soon as I found a Digitech Bass Synth Wah at half price, I took the Boss AW-3 off the board. Man, I love that little green thing!

It's $219, and comes out in July sometime. I got my order in, and anticipate it's arrival with anxiousness. As to the topic of the thread, I'm hoping the BEF Pro is as good as I think it will be. I just got the Source Audio Multiwave Bass Distortion Pro last week, and am very high on it. I currently have a 3Leaf Audio Groove Regulator 2, which like the original version is a Meatball clone. 3Leaf also makes the Proton, a Mu-Tron iii clone, and I've seen rave reviews of it on this forum. I love my GR-2, and will definitely be keeping it in the chain when the BEF Pro arrives. Because as somebody above said, you can never have too many envelope filters. There's always a sound you hear in your head that your current one won't get, and another will, or a combination...

ive tried a ton of filters. i still think nothing touches the vintage mutron III, or lime green DOD FX25. two very differnt sounding filters, but IMO no other filters respond the way they do.

and a FYI- i saw bootsy collins' pedalboard the other night. he still has a vintage mutron, and one DOD FX25, and one FX25B. let that information speak for itself..

I've tried about 5 or so of the popular ones.

I find the most usable one to be my Aguilar Twin filter. It fattens up the bottom nicely and the dynamics are easy to control. Not as a wild or quacky as a lot of the others, but all in all, my favorite filter.

When I saw Bootsy on 6/6/11, he was using HazLab's version of the Mutron III, along with 2 FX25s and MXR BEF. And...he used the FX25 for all of his filter sounds, except for "I'd Rather Be With You" bass solo. Let that information speak for itself.
