Best Female Singing Voice

E. Frasier for ever of course, but this year Brittany and Brandi have gotten noticed by me for having 'best ever' voices.
Brittany Howard and Brandi Carlisle both of whom happened to sing at the Kennedy Center Honors for Joni Mitchell. Brittany Howard started out with the Alabama Shakes, a great band, she's solo now, Brandi Carlisle has taken her band with her even into the Highwomen super band (well 2 of em).

There are so many great female vocalists, many of them mentioned in this thread. I will vote for the amazing Annie Lennox, who has such a pure, powerful angelic voice, she always thrills me. Would I lie to you?

I’m not enthusiastic about G.O.A.T. discussions, especially about singers & Art. OP mentioned Karen Carpenter, which made me think about singers with pipes, range, & clarity of voice. But then there’s phrasing, & not just how but what is the singer singing (Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith...), which just makes a list longer. Making a list is hard enough, let alone picking one to rule them all.

Lots of greats already listed, I’ll add Kim Deal from The Pixies and Beth Gibbons from Portishead, as two of my all time favorite vocalists.

When it comes to newer artists, Adrianne Lenker from Big Thief is easily my favorite.


Also newer and a favorite, Katie Monks of Dilly Dally. From sweet and soothing to blasting your head off, love her vocals.

Both are outstanding and I hope to catch them live some day.
I really hope Brandi does more work (tour please!) with Soundgarden.
