Dude, brace yourself for an onslaught of trolls. The 'best bass for metal' question has been asked so many times and people got so sick of hearing it they troll any thread with that title like mad. it's become a sad cliche around here, so try not to let any of it get to you.
As for an answer, check out the Spector legends. I have one and it's got a great, growly, aggressive tone. Great basses.

I'm pretty sure that two trolls, given some Barry White and mood lighting, will proceed to make nothing other than little trolls.

And I don't play bass or treble. I play high-mids.

Martin Mendez (the bass player of Opeth) plays Fender and Sandberg basses. His basses are essentially Jazz basses, so I don't really see a point of any of these threads, no offense to the OP. For $400, get a used Fender Jazz, or a new Squier CV. Your bass doesn't have to be black either, look at Mandez.

+1 to that. I usually point out Mendez as well in these situations. Bonus that he's actually a really good bass player. New album is set to be something unique to I think.
