Best Flanger?

RC, is there much difference between the Ibanez and the Maxon?

depends if you mean the vintage ibanez or the reissue. the vintage ones were basically made by maxon. They are all pretty similar in a general sense, but the Maxon branded version is without a doubt the lowest noise of the three and it compares very well in other areas as well. If you have the bread, it is the clear choice. If you don't mind constant high end swooshy noises even when you're not playing, get ANY other analog flanger that's cheaper.

These pop up in the classifieds from time to time.

I've had a few (Maxon FL-9, Choralflange, TC Electronic SCF, MXR, Boss BF-2)...and my favorite is the MXR M-117R...It's very quiet, and has lots of range (from subtle to heavy)...just a great sounding Flanger IMO...

I have found (IME/IMO) that for what I will call "non-boutique" effects, that most MXR modulation stuff sounds pretty dang good...

The Maxon was second in line for me to put on my board, I really, really, liked it. I couldn't justify the cost compared to what I already was able to achieve with my Choralflange and George Dennis.

If you can find a used Maxon, go for it. Tons of different sounds in it, and the tone is fantastic.

The Line 6 Liquaflange is a tremendously overlooked/under-appreciated box. Capable of lots of usable tones & also does through-zero. All for around $90 or less for used in "mint" shape including box and instructions. One of the most no-brainer deals around.

I have one and I love it. If you're into stereo, this thing makes the bass weave through the room like a sidewinder.
