Best Fuzz $150-$220???

so many good choices out there. so.... many.........

really, without narrowing it down to a sorta specific need like The Sterling One thar, it's like asking a random selection from BotCon which is the best TRANSFORMER EVER, sitting back and watching the nerd battle over different Generation interpretations and whether KISS Transformers (THAT is a whoooooooooole 'nother story) was pedophillic and watching the poor lost soul that says they LIKED BayFormers (EHX Bass Big Muff) get torn asunder.

yeah. that's right. i called all of us a sweaty batch of GEEKS. deal with it. at least i believe a significant amount of y'all have actually seen laydy or boi parts in person.

AND I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. MIRED IN NERDY HAPPINESS.

I don't use pedals that often but the few times I've needed fuzz the Fender Sub Lime has been fantastic.
Warning - the only thing bigger than it's sound is it's size, this thing will eat up a lot of pedal board space.

I've used a tafm for the last year and a musket for the year prior. All the while I bought and sold countless fuzzes that really couldn't compare to either. I gig a ton and last year sometime when my tafm had an issue, Brian overnighted me a replacement and told me to take my time shipping mine to him. Straight up class act.......thought that was worth mentioning.

oh yeah. Brian is the MAN. Delta bought a used TAFM, it had a problem, Brian ended up gutting it and replacing damn near everything. AND doing a mod. all for the price of shipping. on a pedal that he already made his money on.

i have the hugest of huge man-crushes on the guy.

Prunes and Custard!! I love that pedal for everything from blending in a little fat (used it at a church service of all places this last weekend) to full on insanity!! There is something really fun about that pedal. I just REALLY love the way my hands on my bass feel corresponding with the moderate to wacky sounds I hear from the pedal.

I use a couple of other "fuzz" boxes too from time to time, but P&C is my baby.

Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian - OD/Fuzz sounds
CoPilot Orbit - Gated Fuzz (maybe the gate is what you don't like? It's the same as the pinch control on the ZVex WM, I love mine)
SS/BS TAFM

You can also try a bit reducer such as a WMD Geiger counter (I use mine in a blend loop). You can try a "sample and hold" type analog sampler such and the bugcrusher.
There are so many options!
There are also others I personally do not like, but others enjoy such as the Brassmaster, fuzzface, gnomeratron, etc.

You're going to get so many different answers. A lot of boutique fuzz pedals fall into this price range. Personally, I'd say TAFM, Grey Stache, or Wren & Cuff PPB/TFR.

I just bought a Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie B which is on it's way currently. I never noticed the TAFM though, which seems like it's kind of getting at the same blendable-fuzztortion thing. Any thoughts on these two compared with each other?

I've had both the TAFM and the Pickle Pie B and liked them both alot, Pickle Pie B sounds a little more 'classic' TAFM had a little bit more 'sputter' (VERY SUBJECTIVE). Both worked great with either passive or active, both could pull off scoopy or mid-forward sounds, the TAFM can also work as a dirty boost, the Pickle Pie B is only unity gain for the cleans, can only boost the fuzz. I'd recommend both as good choices in your price range but I'd give the edge to TAFM.

Ah, missed this. Okay got it.

yah.

PPB - thick to cutting with a lot of clarity that you can dial in over more traditional muff based mengers because of the clean blend.

TAFM - can do more range, from an OD-ish boost to full thick fuzz. sputters more (in an awesome way) on held note stuff. has a great tonal range from deep to pretty blaring, but the PPB gets more buzz-sawey cutting'ness. and the gate mod gives you two toanz in one box since when the gate's engaged it maxes the fuzz volume, so you can have either a more sustainy fuzz without the gate, then a cleaner breaking with weird (again, in a GOOD way) decay on longer notes, or set it to be a lightly fuzzed/sorta OD setting that goes FUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ when you click on the gate.

i love both. the PPB is a bit easier to dial in because it does a few things WELL. but the TAFM has more stuff it can do. if i could only have one, the TAFM edges the PPB a little bit. i guess. depends on application? both so good.
