Best Gauge for La Bellas?

Hey gang,

I'm mulling replacing the Roto 77s that have been on my P bass for two years. Don't get me wrong, they sound fine, but I'm ready to delve into some flats with a bit more personality, and I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the Fender 9050CL 45-105 or La Bellas.

Now, as I only really have the Roto 77s for comparison, what gauges would be the best fit? I'm worried about high tension, so I'm split between the 760 FL (43-104), 760FS (45-105), and the 760FX (39-96). Any thoughts? Anybody know why they offer two such similar gauge sizes (FS and FL)?

I use the 760 FL's , if your use to 105-45 gauge than the FS set might be the way to go

IME, nearly ANY string(aside from old Fender flats) in anything but extreme gauges will have lower tension than Roto 77s(I love them for that reason).

I was all set to order the FL's but after reading about how the Chromes at 105 are apparently pretty high-tension, I thought it would be best to ask around and see if that was the case with La Bellas.

And yes, I was tired of winter over a month ago when it became spring. At this point we might only get four solid months of warm weather before it gets cold again.

I can tell you the 43-104 FLs have noticeably less tension than the 45-100 Chromes (counterintuitive, I know).

Tried Chromes a while back at the 100-I can't remember gauge, and felt the strings were a bit too thin for me...I like to dig in instinctively....

The 760FLs will certainly get you into that warm, clear low-end territory. Meatier in feel, but looser and more supple than Chromes.

I don't remember the gauge, but Sadowsky's flats are very nice. Thumpy, yet clear.
