Best instrument cable for bass?

Oxygen free refers to the elimination of oxygen when the copper is made not from the airspace in the cable.

This is handy for your copper not oxidizing internally although, I gather this takes some time to occur.

In any case, I can't see how getting that oxygen out WOULDN'T be a good thing.

there are several ways to eliminate oxygen from the copper including vacuum techniques. The elimination of the oxygen improves conductivity. Nickel plating the copper also improves the life of the cable.
If Manhattan project work is any indication, silver cables would be better. Ime, silver has problems that the cost do not address.
I like my Gibson brand cable. It's labeled instrument. And amp. The instrument end has a wooden cover on the plug end.

I needed an BNC adaptor and cruised down to the shack. They only had gold plated ones for a dollar more than the Nickle. I asked if they had anymore Nickle ones. The guy told me that I wanted gold because all the TV stations use gold plated connectors. Problem was, I worked as a tech at one of the TV stations. I invited him to come down and see if he could find any gold plated BNCs. (BNC style connectors are what get used on video cables.)

I had this one producer from NY to came into produce a band for a label demo.
He brought his "special" guitar cable and requested that we replace the shielded cable from the stereo buss to the power amp with Montser cable and use a Monster speaker cable between the QSC amp and the NS10 monitors.
All I could think of was the miles of Beldon cable that wired up the entire studio as well as the Sony console, MCI 24 track machines, patch panels, and all outboard gear in the control room.
If our cable was "bad" or filtered any frequencies, his cable would have made zero difference.

Hey everyone,

Last night at a gig, my friend and longtime companion of 4 years, 21-Foot Monster Bass Cable, received a thrashing that has left him scarred and near death. I'm not one to grieve for to long, so any suggestions as to his replacement? I'm thinking about going with another monster, simply due to how long it survived the first time, but I know that there are a ton of other quality brands available so I'd love some input, thanks!

I have been using a brand of cable called Pig wire and they are very thick, quality input plugins and cost about 2/3rds the cost of Monsters....

What would you say is the ideal length for patch cables?

Tough question
The tech answer would be as short as possible
I think that there is more resistance in the connectors than the cables at really short distances
My answer is under 6" and as short as works for you

Long enough to get from jack A to jack B.

I was teaching a Ham radio class and we were discussing the effects of cable length vs wavelength of signal at given frequencies.
At the end of the class I asked if someone could tell me how long a cable needs to be to connect a radio to an antenna that is tuned to 7.100 Mhz. After a lot of head scratching and glazed over eyes, I revealed the answer.

It had to be long enough to get from the radio to the antenna.

I was thinking of opening a new thread but I think it is better to go with this one.
I just bought 6 meters of Klotz AC110SW and I will solder 2 neutrik to have my DIY cable. AC110SW claims to have:
conductor resistance: < 85 Ω/km
capacitance: cond./shield: 65 pF/m
insulation resistance: > 1 GΩ x km

Are these specs useful for a good bass sound? how capacitance influence bass sound? I mean that probably 65 pF/m is better than 120 pF/m because it is supposed not to retain any frequency? Am I wrong? Is 120 pF better than 65 pF?

I am really curious about and I already know that probably the differences are subtle and difficult to be perceived.

Get a high quality low impedance instrument cable! Low impedance allows for the best signal to go to your amp. Impedance acts like a filter. The higher the impedance, the less clear and less defined the sound of the bass.

Here's a list of cables and their impedance. Yeah, most of these I've never heard of.

I use George Ls. They are affordable and they made a big audible improvement of my bass' sound. Clarity and definition.
