Always a fun discussion. Check out the BBC recordings. Live with an edge that makes it clear the world had heard nothing like this before. Best live Zep I'ver heard maybe at least partially due to the absence of addictions at the time.

the BBC recordings are great for sure, as is How the West was Won. The studio Lps ere all supreme, but if I have to pick a fav, it would be the 1st one. That's an incredible recording, especially considering the time constraints they were under.

I would have to agree...on both counts.

Seems like most fans are all about I, II and IV - not necessarily in that order. But in terms of pure craftsmanship, songwriting and overall musical maturity, House of the Holy excels. For me, it is THE John Paul Jones album...

Led Zep III was, for me, an acquired taste. But the more I've heard it, the more I like it. I think it has stood the test of time, perhaps better than any LZ album. And it has a more natural, authentic, organic character than most of the others, probably owing to its tinges of English folk music popping up from time to time - not just the blues....

I and II probably have some of the best bass lines to emulate as a beginner. Kind of old blues inspired stuff.

My two favorites are I and II, if not for the fact that Jimmy's blues riffs kick all kind of ass. It was also before they became all about the slow, story telling epics about someplace far-off. Its not that I don't like those songs, just the power of the first two. And as for live, I love BBC Sessions.

Presence for me studio wise. I have to admit that The Song Remains The Same has been burned into my subconscious from hours of listening to it in my youth so it gets my official live release vote. Also, I haven't bought or heard the other 2 live ones.

Zep II is probably my favorite bass album of all-time.

I because it was so new and sonic and downright dangerous sounding when it first hit the airwaves

and IV because the songs are so well crafted, powerful and the song sequence order is so strong.

These are the least "jam" sounding albums of the early releases. They kinda lost me after IV, although I like some stuff offa "Houses" and "Presence".

Led Zeppelin 1 is my favorite. The power and intensity behind every track is amazing. It's basically a live-ish album!
