Best led zep release

This is very true. If you listen to I with a high-quality set of headphones, you can hear detail and nuance of real musicians playing live, coincidentally in a studio setting. A groundbreaking album for sure.
EDIT: BTW my first copy of LZ-I was an 8-track tape!
Up, until about a year ago... i never bothered with Led Zeppelin. I associated them with stupid stoner kids from highschool that would wear corduroy pants, tevas, and those hemp necklaces with the blown-glass mushrooms. But then...

She sings in a Led Zep tribute band, so i HAD to start doing some research. And damn... i love them now. Her dad is a life-long drummer who is the sole factor in her love of Led Zeppelin. He's the quintessential collector. His drum set-up is surrounded by stacks and stacks of CD rips of rare live shows that he plays along with. I've been inspired to learn their songs and go jam with him!
My fave, is "Houses of the Holy"... but i was given a 5 CD rip of the Earls Court 1975 concert(s), and THOSE get more rotation than just Houses of The Holy, by itself.

The boxed set ("Complete Studio Recordings"), duh... 
...but if I had to pick one individual release, it would definitely be Houses Of The Holy.

First would be IV, even though I don't ever want to hear "Stairway" again. It's mostly about the latter tracks for me. Next would be Physical Graffiti, partly because I listened to it a lot when I was in India, and it really fit the vibe. But at various times over the past 31 years, it's been any of the first six. I love them all.

I never cared for Coda. Never have. Never will.
Now I'm not saying the death of Bonham was a good thing, (it was actually the worst thing I have ever been told) but I'm glad Led Zeppelin split when they did. I didn't like the direction they were going in with albums like Coda and In Through the Out Door. That music just didn't do anything for me.

My favourite tunes to play are on I and II.
My favourite tunes to listen to are on Physical Graffiti. Great memories of driving around in my first car on hot nights with that barefoot girl riding shotgun. For a couple of kids, we sure did alot of living with that album playing as a soundtrack. Feck ya!

III will always be special to me because I heard it first- "Immigrant Song" made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and still does. II is obviously the most commercially popular. But...

Both are great recordings and I cannot say which would be my favorite. Both are on top of the list for me.

I don't think you can answer an open ended question wrongly but I'm curious as to why you don't like them live? No hate from me or anything at all (I'm not one of THOSE guys) I just always thought "live" was the way to experience zeppelin.
I think its extremely sloppy and all over the place when they are live, especially Page and Plant. It seems like they are totally different people live, and almost incapable of producing the quality that they did in the studio. (Just my humble opinion)
