What looks best

No offense, but what does it matter what we think? What matters is whether or not you like the way it looks, and like the way it plays.

[My $.02] Personally, I like all the covers on, but I can't play the darn thing with them there, I move my hand around too much to change the sound as I feel the need.[/$.02]

I would say no covers, not because I don't like them, but it seems off. I think the stang body is too small, and the covers are just too much metal. It clashes with the black and the sunburst which look great standing alone. Although if you were going to add covers no matter what, go with both.

I don't think there's any question that Fender basses look best as Fender originally designed them: with the covers!

However, there's a reason you don't see them set up like that much. A lot of players find them to be a PITA for various reasons. I don't have any covers for mine, and I'm totally weird, so I will probably order them for one of the basses, just to see how I like it.

Of course, if I do that, I now have holes to fill.

But such is life, I suppose.
