Jesus. Do we have to go through this EVERY SINGLE TIME?

I'm not voting. This thread is just a trap to get metalheads in here so they can be condescended to about "meaningless" subgenres by classic rock purists, isn't it?

YES, we apparently have to go through this every single time, and YES, dudes in classic rock bands obviously have raging inferiority complexes. So what else is new?

First of all I'm more into hillbilly string bands and electric blues, no fan of classic rock here. Some of it is OK, but it's entirely too self indulgent, vapid, shallow, and generic to my true love interest.

I don't think it's specifically a trap to make fun of metalheads, but it is kinda funny that metalheads think they need so many subgenres to define their music.

Trust me, I have mad respect for the level of dedication and sacrifice required to play some of the really stand out stuff metalheads play, but the level of pretense associated with the fantasy of metal as music done by a bunch of badass warriors when it is in fact mostly overly sensitive, and painfully shy introverts who wouldn't harm a fly thrashing it out at 11, just make it difficult to align the pose with the people doing the posing.

Seriously though, I never though I'd be apologizing to a badass warrior for hurting their feelings, but if I hurt your feelings by making light of the music you enjoy, I most humbly apologize for doing so. I try to not take too much in life seriously enough to get wrapped around the axle over it and at times I forget not everyone is on a similar wavelength.

That might very well be the case.
I'm also glad to see that no one has cast a vote on option 5 yet, thus confirming the asininity of the statement that Black Metal, Death Metal and Screamo (???) are the same.
Edit: I came to late.

Wouldn't light metal just be hard rock?

Wasn't light metal the marketing name for the abomination that is Christian black metal? Or was that white metal? I think there was more than one name for this.

Weird.I know A LOT of "metalheads", and they are no more overly sensitive, painfully shy, or introverted than a cross section of people in general. And neither of them walk around pretending to be "warriors".

Maybe I'm just not paying attention.

Just stay out of metal threads if all you're going to do is be a total dick about the music. You're just trolling and that "apology" is just more sanctimonious sarcasm from someone who thinks he's so much better than people who like something he hardly knows anything about. I don't drop into bluegrass or blues threads to tell everyone that the music they like is, quote: "self indulgent, vapid, shallow, and generic" or sarcastically call them "badasses" just to belittle them on an internet forum for jollies. I'm sure you'll get some likes and that will validate your post. Whatever makes you feel superior to other people. Talk about pretense.

And get over yourself thinking you've hurt my feelings. Please. You're not that important.

This thread makes me cringe. Obvious trolling. Don't put black, death, or...screamo if you can't even differentiate them. Dreadful.

BLACK METAL

DEATH METAL

Ugh...Screamo

It's very easy to see the differences among them. Notice how two of said genres are tremendous pieces of music, while one is complete drivel for teenage girls who paint their fingernails black. There you go. Have a nice day!

You are absolutely right. It was a big mistake to think of metalheads as warriors. After the hissy fits at my (admittedly sophomoric) attempts at humor, it's obvious your typical metalhead is more akin to the girls who wear miniskirts for no other reason than an excuse to browbeat anyone they catch looking at them.

My vote lies in prog or power. I mean, TOOL, Dream Theater, Kamelot? Those guys are great, really are.

Though I will say that we as metalheads need to reduce the amount of sub genres we have. I've heard of vegetarian metal. It's getting out of hand.

Speaking of sub genres, will anybody familiar with Mudvayne please tell me where they fall?

You are the Oracle. I am but a wet fart in the glory of thy wisdom.
