I currently use the Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0. At 4 ohms I get 900 watts of power. With 2 8x10 cabs I can ay anywhere at any volume. The beauty of the amp is that it only weighs 4 lbs!! It delivers great tone and clarity.

At 51 pounds I'm really liking the Traynor YBA300. The sound that I'm getting out mine is outstanding and with features like.....Indicator LEDs for individual tube bias adjustment and lockout so you can tell the status of your tubes, a complete 2 year warranty that's transferable and more, whats not to like. I'm running mine thru 2 Traynor TC115s and it's simply awesome! I don't miss my ole 69 SVT anymore.

Hey Rezdog,
I don't see Traynor down in GA. I've heard good things about those amps. I'll have to do some research. I like my Shuttle. U also have a MarkBass LMT800. I like a tone that cuts through very clear on the highs. How's that Traynor handle the high freqs? Also do you get any mud at high volumes in the low end?

I have been using an Eden VT300 and it's relative twin, the Sadowsky SA200 for a couple years. They both use toroidal transformers and, although they sound great, they don't get much transformer sag like an old Fender or Ampeg. This might be good for some but I miss it.

I'm not sure you'll get the pristine highs of some solid state amps but thats not what I want. Check out the Traynor site for the Dealers section. They do have Traynor dealers in Georgia. The Prez of the TB Yorkville/Traynor Club is from Georgia too.

To incorporate a switch powersupply into a tube design is very tricky business. Cause it will make the tubes work like an AM radio. So shielding is an issue with such a design. (according to internet sources). But it is done. The VB3 by Peavey is the proof in the pudding. So I imagine we need to shout out to other manufacturers to realise this too.
Less weight. More tube tone. And less fuzz from failing tubes. Just some switching and lights to tell us it's time to put in new tubes. And an auto bias. With all the modern technology I'm quite sure this can be done....
I'm quite sure the new Bugera 1960 with Infinium could be there in a superbass modus and be a great bass amp.

What's a 'lateral' mosfet then?
Not sure about auto bias, where you bias you amp is kind of a taste call.

Are there any MI amps that use not lateral mosfets for the power? Is it actually a boast, or just a totally standard thing that marketing decided to throw out there?

I'd like to try the YBA300.
Put me down as another old guy who forgets about the weight of an SVT once the music starts. I've driven minivans for the past 25 years so size and weight have never been determining factors for me in gear.
The two amps I've played that I liked just as well as mine are the VBA400 & the Reeves 400 - neither of which is a featherweight either.

The BTA series sound really good but are HEAVY! I would like to try a 427 but nobody around me stocks them(as far as I know...).
...and I hate to admit this but I've never played through an SVT. so I guess I really need to do that.

I still think the Peavey VB-3 is the most exciting thing currently happening with tube amps.

IMO, that last sentence might be a bit optimistic.
On a dutch bass forum someone purchased a Bugera 1960 and modded it to superbass specs and was very happy.
The current Eden tube bass amp is a WTB300V.

Recently, my Alessandro Basset Hound is equipped with a pair of new tube TungSol KT120 (his output power is henceforth for its maximum: 100 watts). Among, everything tube amp which I had the opportunity to play, the basset is doubtless the best of the best: excellent headroom, total respect for the playing nuances and for the sound of my bass guitars, rich & fat & creamly beautifull sounds, absence of noise, completed tonal balance, manufacturing and components of very high quality, etc.... I love it very very much.

It could be useful to use a lowerpowered tube amp these days. But 100 watts needs some neodynium drivers if you'd want to keep up with a band.
