Play within your band's means/music style. I used to always try to write cool walking bass lines and throw in arpeggios during each note change but I ended up with a lead bass line so to speak rather than something that supports the music. I now have toned everything down a bit and use that kinda stuff in a tasteful way and it really does make a difference.

Looks like a great program, but when I downloaded it and ran it, I can't hear the audio.
Edit:Never mind I got to download a midi program to hear the song, whoops, stupid mistake.
The best advice I've ever gotten is...
"At the end of the day it's what you want your role to be and how you shall fill it."-I can't recall who said that to me, but I live by that quote.(Musically and beyond)
Some of the best advice I've been given:
Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes PERMANENT. Perfect practice makes perfect. That came from both my guitar teacher and my karate sensei.
If you practice sloppy, you'll play sloppy.
If you practice with discipline you'll play like a pro.

This guy gave me a lesson at guitar center out of no where because I was playing a song he liked that I'm apparently too young to know (Chameleon-Herbie Hancock). Told me the K.I.S.S. principled and gave me many fun quotes to repeat. Also said I was "The best, white, 15 year old bassist he's ever seen" He gave me his number in case I want more lessons, and I'd actually call him up but my parents wouldn't go along with it.
