It seems that no one is certain exactly what NuMetal is. Or, at least I'm not certain. Everyone is convinced they dont like it, and if they do, then they say that that particular band is a different style. I could be wrong and I definately am not picking a fight. I'm just confused about the term.

heres my two cents:

i listen to hard rock, not numetal. hard rock(to me) is softened down death metal, it has some melody, but you can bang your head to it. now, what i consider "numetal" is actually rap-rock. RHCP are the exception. but these wannabe rappers/bangers is numetal(ie. FRED DURST!!!!! now, Limp Bizkit as a bad = decent Fred Durst as a singer = BAD) i dont consider SOAD, or korn(yes, i hate fieldy), or slipknot numetal, its hard rock. aerosmith is just good ol' rock n' roll. what i think is that oldschool metal heads dont understand the new stuff, so just reject it, but i started in the new and still like the old.

but, on topic:
Fuzz - root notes anyone?
Ryknow - this guys got some pretty funky licks.
Shavo - nothing special, but REALLY fast
Rob Merrel - look at fuzz...

I don't know why everyone hates the term NuMetal, who cares? as far as I'm concerned all labels suck, they put every artist in a box.

Fetis was right on with the 4 bassist mentioned.

I'm more into songwriting than any one player. I think some of the best songwriting bands in the "NuMetal/Hardrock" scene are;
Tool
SOAD
AAF
Deftones
P.O.D.
Incubus

my list of great players from this genre;
Tye Zamora
Ryknow
Traa Daniels
Dirk Lance

who cares what you label it, if you like it, it's good.

Traa Daniels has definately got it going on; he knows how to support the rest of the band, yet he knows when to turn it on eg "Hollywood", "full colour", and he also brings that regae vibe which i love on "without Jah nothing".

When i saw them last week, he played some real quick stuff, like his fingers flu around the frettboard....WOW!!

right on! he's bad.
a lot of stuff he does seems to go right over my head the first few times I listen to it. but once you sit down and really listen, you'll be impressed. he's got a subtle coolness in his style.
Live, he's unbelievable!
yeah the ending of "Full Color" really shows his funk chops :D

Would that be the issue with the guy who played chords on the first three strings and played the bass line on the top three with his thumb? I think it was also the issue with Justin Chancellor.

i dont really remember which particular issue it was in. Id have to go rummage thru them all to see if I still even have the issue. I gave some of the issuses to a friend of my sisters who said he was taking up bass.

I should get off my duff any way and see which ones I still have...so if I find it I'll get back to ya
