Best Pedal you bought in 2024?

I only bought two in 2024, which is a bunch considering I have probably only bought 4 total in the last 25 years.

2024's were a Sushi box Underground Accelerator and a Broughton HPF.
One is utility, the other is tube sweetness.

My Helix HX Stomp XL with the Ian Martin Alison presets. Everything else seems like kinda a waste of money now

I went through a lot of pedals this year.. like an embarrassing amount of pedals. The big discovery for me was the ODR-1 circuit and I tried a lot of them… I just got my Nordland back from being modded and it may be my number one this year… close second would be the Xotic RC Boost V2, although I have it listed in the classifieds because of the boost and eq that the Empress ParaEQ deluxe offers which is also a stellar pedal. Not to mention the Neptunium which is what my whole board gets its sound from. The new Cali76 bass comp also made me reconsider my choices for compression… so many to pick from. So yeah I'd say Nordland>Neptunium>Cali76 Bass Comp>ParaEQ>RC Boost v2

I've made a few purchases this year, but they've all basically been replaced with the Darkglass Microtubes Infinity. Basically, replaced 90% of my set-up.

I'm not what you'd consider to be much of a pedal person but I bought a ZeroFive Audio Lowrider and for me it's been a game changer.

Source Audio C4 and PEQ2. I'd say the C4 but making and saving presets has been challenging due to the Neuro App. When all the bugs are worked out this pedal will be my best purchase. Right now it's the PEQ2. It's become my amp through my in ear setup and with hp/lpf, gate, tuner and 10 adjustable EQ centers I've been able to sculpt a great tone. Definitely 2 great purchases.

I spent way too much this year on preamps, like usual haha. Many Sushibox pedals were added, including a Grand Slampegg which I love, and an Underground Accelerator to mix it up. My favorite though right now is the Broughton SV-Pre. Just sounds perfect with my setup. Gives my P basses through my Ampeg V4-B reissue pushing 2 15 inch cabs a ton of heft. I know it is sort of old news, but the SV-Pre is just fantastic.

I got a VT Bass DI earlier this year and it's been pretty awesome. Every bass I own sounds a little different through that one, and it's cool to have a pedal with such a dynamic response. The presets in the manual are a pretty good starting point, and I think the most recent one I referenced is called warm compression. I like that one with my Mustang + flats.

Honorable mention for the Aguilar TLC compressor I bought, although it's been sitting mostly unused lately. I've been trying to practice as much as possible without compression to really work on my consistency and dynamics, and I think the practice has started paying off. The pedal itself is a keeper though, really tough to get a "bad" setting, and I like that it doesn't color the tone at all.

Lots of pedals come and go. Right now I'm really enjoying this OG Creamsicle SGFX Beta I just got used from GC. I've probably owned 3-4 versions of this pedal over the years (including this one) but I just discovered the amazing tone of a Dimarzio Model P equipped Pbass through the Beta with the gain almost all the way down, volume at noon and the tone dimed.

Donner Dumbal Drive; an inexpensive incredibly good sounding overdrive. Very organic sounds like a tube amp pushed hard. I looked for years for something like this.

TC Electronics Thunderstorm Flanger: a Boss BF-2 clone, inexpensive as well.

Another vote for the JHS Punchline. It's special. Just a great piece of kit. Runner up, Cali76 compressor.

Mine is boring.
My favourite pedal purchase this year has been the Sansamp BDDI V2.
My amp is a Hartke LH500, so I've always liked a preamp with character to give my bass tone through it some character. I did the rounds of different preamp pedals (Tonehammer, M80, VT Bass Deluxe, EBS Microbass II, Programmable BDDI). The PBDDI nearly did it for me but I always fought the inherent scoop by putting an EQ pedal ahead of it.

Along comes the BDDI V2 and I get the Sansamp character that I like, but the BDDI V2 with it's slightly different voicing and the added mid control and bass/treble shifts gets me the tone I'm loving and can ditch the EQ pedal.

Some would consider that a lot . I bough a Source Audio ZIO Bass DI. Most useful to me. I used it every gig even if I have another preamp.

I am also using the Eventide H90 a lot but usually my bowed upright and my acoustic Baritone guitar with half-nashville tuning

Lastly I also got the Source Audio Artifakt. Mot fun in one box with some useful features

I didn't buy alot of pedals this year but the quality of pedals I bought were exceptional.
I'd be hard press to say which one was best since every single one has landed a spot on one of my 2 pedalboards.

In order of purchase.

1. Broughton Subsonic
2. Broughton RFE
3. Zerofive Audio LowRider
4. Jam Pedal Red Muck Bass
5. Broughton SVF
6. Singular Audio Tubedrve

The Red Muck is the only pedal that is not a permanent fixture.

How did your pedal journey go in 2024?

I got 4 pedals in 2024.

3 are on all the time, and probably will be all I use from here on out for my drive/gain section of my FX and are running my signal in this order

Laney Black Country Customs "The Custard Factory" compressor (purchase #2)
Way Huge "Pork & Pickle" OD/Fuzz (purchase #3 and replaced a MXR M85 Distortion)
Sushi Box "More" 2 tube preamp, gain only, no tone section (purchase #1)

I've never had 3 pedals work so great together before and they work really well with my Mesa D-800+. All my basses but my acoustic are passive Fender, P, PJ, and Jazz, so swapping basses while using those pedals isn't an issue either.

Pedal #4 was a complete accident, but not on my part. Back in March I bought two Markbass Traveler 102P cabs and four, 3ft Kirlin speakon cables. When Musician's Friend shipped out the cabs and cables they shipped 3 boxes. Box #1 - cab, Box #2 - cab, and Box #3 - speaker cables. But, box #3 came with 3 instead of the 4 speakon cables I ordered and a Boss DC-2W Waza Craft Dimension C Pedal that I didn't order.

Musician's Friend shipped the 4th cable overnight, refunded all 4 cables (160 total) and told me to keep the DC2-W Dimension C pedal that normally sells for 220. So I ended up with 4 cables and the pedal, a total of $380, for free.

The DC2W-Dimension C is a great pedal. But it's not a pedal one will use all the time, or even a lot depending on the music one plays. I use it on some Pink Floyd, some Tool, STP's Creep and few other songs. But for most of the rock I play there's no need for it.

All in all, 2024 was the best year for me in pedals ever. I finally have a drive FX section unlike anything I've ever had before it. And the DC2W-Dimension C is a lot of fun to mess around with from time to time.

The Boss MO-2 has been a huge surprise, I really dig it. Using it as an organ/synth in a trio setting.
