Double Bass Best pickup for an acoustic sound?

As Jackie Brown said, "you're not askin' the right questions". One small mercy in this whole thing is that the exact way your bass sounds acoustic is probably not best for ensemble playing and nobody needs an amp for solo playing. So, while reproducing the bass is not possible with a pick up yet, a warm sound with more bite than mic is very possible.

What you are really looking for is any pro-level piezo that interferes with the bridge the least, this cuts out wing pick ups and the BP-100. After that it is down to technique, how much acoustic sound you can push with the amp on, and what amps you use.

Defenetly the Ehrlund is the closest to a miced DB sound.....

I have used the Ehrlund EAP. On my Mirecourt 5/8 ths Bass, with the Grace Designs Felix and MAS1/8 it sounds like a acoustic and responds like a Double bass. Just my take.

The pick up that comes off and affects the acoustic sound the least is the Barcus Berry clamp through a contemporary amp. This means I can mix acoustic and amplified sound and use a volume pedal. You can't amplify an acoustic sound unless you have a strong acoustic sound, if you have a light touch you are just going to get string sound. There are better but more invasive pick ups out there.
You need the right amp for any pick up, I would say a GK MB or better.

I just picked up a BB clamp. Damon, what kind of cabling do you use to connect to your amp? I'm having trouble locating either a female RCA to female 1/4" adapter (to use with a regular instrument cable), or a female RCA to male 1/4" cable.
I think I remember reading you prefer George L cables, as do I. Thanks,

I was using two connectors, RCA to male to female to female from Radio Shack, I finally got a guitar repair guy to solder 1/4 output with shrink tubing and everything and it is amazing. I keep it in a bubble wrap pocket inside a small box in the pocket of my bass bag.
