Best pickups for metal

Awesome thank you guys for the responses!

to Bassgod0dmw: its not really that I don't know what I want it is because this bass is fanned frets and Tuned F#-B-E-A-D and not many people make or play them; therefore I am trying to get a few more opinions on the topic than just mine and a few musician/engineer/luthier buddies

SolarMan: great idea bro, barbed wire wrapped nails? ur right that would be so br00tal lol

Thanks guys

dual hum buckers (one in bridge and the other in neck profile, is what I am used to), I like silent as possible, defined, and tonally even (not completely transparent, but not something that colors the heck out of it). I am open to new things (I'm not married to one particular style) and do pretty much what ever I need to get tone

Just go to Guitar Center and play a bunch of basses man. seems you don't know what you want. Go play and let your ears/hands do the deciding.

yeah thats pretty much the standard scooped metal bass tone these days, im seeing them on the 27th pretty excited. I want to know if a bongo would make a big difference from a music man HH sound wise playing metal :bassist:

dave from Born of Osiris uses a 5 string bongo now he recorded with one for the discovery....its great meeting metalheads on this forum dont see to many of us around here

It really is, just got home from seeing texas in july and they were awesome :bassist:

I remember playing with Texas In July before they were blowing up. They're local guys to me so we were rocking the community center/firehall shows.

Their drummer is really talented but he's a complete douchebag...just sayin.

EMG's get my vote for metal. They have a lot of presence and edge. I have them on one of my basses, but I am not sure what model they are. Mostly I play Bartolini, but then again I am not playing metal.

I have EMG 40CS in bridge and neck position on my Modulus TBX5. I play through a SWR SM-1500 head into a SWR 810 Megoliath. I have found my dream setup. It's killer for any style where punch, clarity, and growl are needed. If you add a 215 cab.....mandinga, that would be amazing.

Um... anything. Seriously. I have a Warwick $$ with a crazy amount of pickup combinations available, and really I use whatever I'm in the mood for. Lately it's been single coils for me, either with balance in the middle, or favoring the bridge... or single coil in the neck and series MM at the bridge, with balance in the middle. Most of your sound is from your technique and eqing in metal anyway. Again, use what you want.
