Double Bass Best Portable Amp for a Student? BG and/or DB...

I see alotta Gallien Krueger MB series amps get used for your needs. Heck, I even used one for 2 years playing rock shows. Plenty of power and EQ options, DI out, it wasn't much bigger than the 1x12 speaker inside.

Although, I think I like the ruggedness of the GK MBE and MBS. these new microbass amps have more power and cost less. It's probably a good bet, that this amp would do the trick. Unfortunately, no Guitar Center in St. Louis has anything new these days, so I haven't seen one yet. All you would have to have, is some type of pre amp to insert into the effects loop for DB.

All the amps mentioned are great, and being a Markbass combo owner, I can attest to the amazing sound and usability. However the OP is a student, and may prefer something a little less costly.

I will recommend the new Acoustic line at GC. The B20 is now on sale for $175, for example, and the B200 is $349. Even better deals are to be had for previously owned gear. These amps are very highly rated and are a bargain. Take a look at the reviews.

Had I not gotten my MB150S for a $95 repair bill, my plan was to hold out for the new combos. Although I doubt their build quality is up to that of the old US made stuff, considering the price and added power the new MB112 looks like a good option. I do look forward to trying the 12.
The bigger combos sound really nice with slab.
