How about a chorus pedal? Nothing against reverb, but I think chorus works better on bass for an always on sound.

How about a chorus pedal? Nothing against reverb, but I think chorus works better on bass for an always on sound.
i don't do digital, so for me it's pretty narrow, but man i've really been GASing recently for a Van-Amps Sole-Mate (or Reverbmate) or a Little Lanilei.

I'm very fond of the EBS Dynaverb. It has a very clean, warm, and natural sounding reverb tone that, in my opinion, sounds much better than the cold, sterile or processed sounds of many other popular reverbs (Holy Grail, Boss RV series, etc.)
The Dr. Scientist Reverberator also comes to mind especially for long and saturated reverb, but for light amounts of reverb I would go for the Dynaverb.

I have fiddled about with reverb on bass and found nothing but mush. Recently been advised to try a touch of reverb on EUB to make it more true to an upright sound. Any pointers?
I have a alesis midiverb with a heap of different reverbs and delays on it, even got a manual somewhere, so if anyone has any bright ideas for a bar the size of a rich man's lounge room I'm all ears.

Having never used it I cannot say it's the best. Based on his other pedals and their general kick-ass-ness, this one's gonna be awesome!!
I use reverb, only for certain parts/sounds, in my bass rig pedalboard and I tried a bunch of pedals, perhaps this may help you out...
Boss RV-5 - to be honest it really didn't do much for me, just wasn't enough IMO.
Boss FRV-1 - sounded pretty great, but only one setting was usable for what I wanted.
Boss FDR-1 - pretty cool, a bit more "cavernous" than the FRV-1, but just as limited.
EHX Holy Grail - veeeery awesome reverb with variety, but it really killed the main/dry signal volume when it was on for bass.
EHX Holy Grail Plus - I got this cuz it has a Blend knob which would remedy the issue I had with the Holy Grail, BUT when I got it from Guitar Center for some reason it was making a significant buzz sound while next to any of my other pedals, something to do with the powersupply I believe. Might've been a damaged pedal, but I hate dealing with GC and didn't want to bother trying to get another one.
Digitech Digiverb - very awesome reverb pedal! Affordable too! Several great settings. The only reason I got rid of this was because the switch got fried somehow, I got a freelance gig to design/rehouse a pedal where my client compensated me with a BYOC reverb pedal kit. I was later able to fix the Digiverb, just had to replace a 35cent part, and gave it to a friend.
BYOC Reverb - I built my own reverb pedal from the kit, but I did several mods to the circuit board so I could fine tune and dial in the best dry/effect mix. Tons of reverb to mess with, from subtle to the deepest biggest caves. I painted it, designed the graphic and applied the graphic. Sounds awesome, looks awesome. probably my favorite pedal.

that Nimbus bass reverb seems pretty sweet too! I can tell from it's knobs that it has some functionality that other reverb pedals just don't have.

Strymon Blue sky isn't cheap.
But it has "Shimmer",
Its worth it for that alone,
sounds like these ambient violins echoing your melody up on a cloud somewhere, an amazing effect for slow, pretty solos.
The Malekko Chiklet is the size of a business card, maybe skinnier.. It sounds vintage-y and nice..
It has this feature,
when u click off the effect, the reverb doesn't abruptly cut off, as it does with most verbs, instead,it slowly fades..

The best sounding reverb I've used is a Dr. Scientist Red Radical Reverberator on the Hall #2 setting. There is also very cool 'rotary' setting on that pedal. The effect can go from very subtle to absolute insanity and everywhere in between. I think there is a buffer with slight boost within that pedal, because the signal is slightly louder and fuller when the pedal is engaged.
I also have (and like) the Digitech Hardwire RV-7. It sounds a tad more sterile to me, but it's also very good. The reverse reverb effect and modulation effect are unique to that pedal.
